Great choice for a day trip and getting to be outdoors. A huge variety of volcanic formations occur out here, with lots of trails to see them all. Cave tours are also available. Bring water and snacks if making a day out of it, when your done the restaurant, Captain Jacks Stronghold, in Tulelake is a great choice for good food/service.

The Lava Bed National Park is a short drive, with several day hikes, trails, and historical and interesting things to see and do. The caves are both safe and thrilling, and the history walks are easy to get to and informative. Star gazing is especially potent out here, as there is very little light pollution. Petroglyphs and Captain Jack's Stronghold, where the last Indian wars in the US were fought, are within a ten minute drive.

A little over an hour drive south of our ranch, the Lava Beds allow for cave spelunking and lava rock tours in a desert feel. Bring your gloves and hard hat for a day of fun. Most enjoyable during the hot portion of the summer.

A must see if you love hiking and exploring and caves! There are a couple of flashlights at Haven of Rest for you to take along with you and don't forget a jacket as it can be chilly in the tubes! There are 25 marked tubes to see - a delightful adventure!
