This is our favourite of the black sand West Coast beaches - you can also easily check it out on the way to Piha or Anawhata (they all divert off the same main road). As well as the awesome beach, there's a cool waterfall a short walk up the road that you can also swim in.

AA members rate the Karekare Falls the best swimming hole in New Zealand. A 30 minute bush walk will get you there. This park offers camping and a long, sheltered beach with clear water. You can even take your horse swimming here, if you're into that.
