The enchanting village of Rocca Ricciarda Pratomagno Exploring villages in the nature of Valdarnoimage If you love hiking, beautiful walks in the woods and now that is going to come back in the summer have not yet decided where to start, here it seems to be the path for you. We are among the paths and the Apennines mountains, and itininerario that we propose starts near the mountain resort of Gorgiti, in the town of Loro Ciuffenna (AR) - where there are a few dozen houses, and has as a goal the beautiful village medieval Fortress Ricciarda, at the foot of the Apennine ridge that divides the Valdarno from Casentino and upper named Pratomagno. Through forests of oak, hornbeam and chestnut trees almost completely abandoned, the trail climbs to the village of Rocca Ricciarda dominated by a large and imposing outcrop of rock on which was built a castle of which there are records dating from 1191. Today the fortress you can only see the remains of the walls but what surprised once you reach the top is the amazing view enjoyable to 360 degrees. From up there you understand why that big boulder has been the subject of disputes and battles to acquire the domain: you can dominate the entire Valdarno and constituted a crucial point of viability in the Middle Ages as it connected the Casentino with the Valdarno, Arezzo and Florence. Siamo tra i sentieri e i monti dell'appennino, e l'itininerario che vi proponiamo inizia in prossimità della località montana di Gorgiti, nel comune di Loro Ciuffenna (AR) - dove si contano poche decine di abitazioni, e ha come mèta il bellissimo borgo medievale di Rocca Ricciarda, ai piedi della dorsale appenninica che divide il Valdarno superiore dal Casentino e che prende il nome di Pratomagno. Attraverso boschi di querce, carpini e castagni ormai quasi del tutto abbandonati, il sentiero sale fino al borgo di Rocca Ricciarda sovrastato da un grande e imponente sperone di roccia sul quale fu eretto un castello del quale si hanno notizie fin dal 1191. Oggi della Rocca si possono vedere solo i resti delle mura ma ciò che stupisce una volta raggiunta la cima è l’incredibile panorama godibile a 360 gradi. Da lassù si capisce perché quel grande macigno è stato oggetto di contese e battaglie per acquisirne il dominio: è possibile dominare l’intero Valdarno e costituiva un punto cruciale di viabilità nel Medioevo in quanto collegava il Casentino con il Valdarno, Arezzo con Firenze.
