Although the currents aren't quite as strong as at Kleinkranz, swimming here can be dangerous. However, it's wonderful for wild beach walks with lots of wave-sculpted rocks and local fishermen love this beach. It's often missed by tourists and you could feel as if you have the place to yourself. Fabulous for watching sunset over the sea.

Flat Rock is a popular fishing spot at Wilderness on the Garden Route in the Western Cape. Besides the fishing, it's great for long beach walks or simply lazing about on the golden sands. It's also an amazing location for watching whales and dolphins. Southern Right whales frequent these waters between July and November, while dolphins can be seen throughout the year. The car park and the rest area on the boardwalk (built down the vegetated dunes) are ideal vantage points. The boardwalk access to the beach is fairly steep (go carefully, especially with kiddies) but it is certainly worth the effort. Alas, it's not much of a swimming beach and there are no lifeguards.
