The monastery of Clonmacnoise is situated on the River Shannon. Clonmacnoise was founded in 544 by St. Ciarán. Marvel at the Celtic high crosses and tower of Clonmacnoise. This beautiful stone landmark unlocks the secrets of the Land of Saints and Scholars.

Old (founded in 544!) monastic site situated about 20 minutes drive from Athlone on the banks of the Shannon. Beautiful scenery here on a sunny day. Continue to Shannonbridge for a stop off in Killeens famous bar.
