Seaside suburb Ōrākei is now home to a new luxury neighbourhood cinema. Named simply because the title is unforgettable, Silky Otter Cinemas has been designed to "change the way you enjoy movies." The boutique New Zealand-owned complex is located above Plant Barn in the Ōrākei Bay Village shopping precinct. It features two cinemas, each fitted out with 44 luxurious leather recliners, Laser Cinema Projection and 7.1 surround sound. Before settling into leather recliners to enjoy a completely ad-free pre-show, guests can take their pick from a menu of reimagined movie snacks. You can catch the train here from Britomart (get off at the Orakei Station and walk across the pedestrian bridge to the village) and there are a couple of great dining options in Orakei Village (Ampersand or Beer Brothers are great) if you want to enjoy a movie and dinner.
