This is a really beautiful old building. Lots of history. Lots to see and hear.,An excellent reminder of the old style of Chicago. Worthy of a second visit.
Take a peak and wander around this old building... you can hear opera singers, violinists, pianists, practicing through the hallway doors... Check out the open house second Fridays 4:30 -9:30 pm
With spectacular woodwork and an old fashioned elevator with an operator, you will find violin makers, opera teachers, kundalini yogis and more in this building. It’s worth a trip and it’s near Millennium Park.
The Fine Arts Building, located on Michigan Avenue across from Grant Park, is one of Chicago's lesser known architectural gems. It maintains much of its nostalgia with the old-fashioned elevator operators (Where else will you experience the thrill of bouncing up and down vigorously to get to the right floor level, jostled by a friendly old guy operating a lever?!). The monthly Second Friday's of the month are a great opportunity to tour the many unique studios, meet and mingle with the artists, purchase jewelry and artwork, and listen to performing artists. A must-see if you're in the neighborhood...if only for the manual elevators!
