More professional photography coming soon! Inkpen Cottage is a charming, detached Grade II listed red brick building originally thought to have been a farmworker’s cottage. You’ll find it tucked away on Strawberry Hill Farm, where the owners are working towards developing a self-sufficient lifestyle. There’s plenty to see on the farm itself, including a vegetable garden, fruit trees, a poly tunnel and geese and chickens, not to mention the odd pig or two! Recently renovated, the cottage has been refurbished to a high standard. The attractive, locally-made clay tile flooring has underfloor heating throughout, while the open-plan sitting room and kitchen benefits from a wood burning stove with French doors leading out to the private garden. The garden has wonderful views of the East Sussex countryside. In one corner, you’ll find a copse with a hammock and hot tub, perfect for relaxing after a day out exploring. The cottage is situated in the High Weald, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with ancient woodlands, iron workings and meadows teeming with wildlife. With many beautiful villages and towns nearby to explore including Battle, Rye, Burwash and Tenterden and the south coast is a short drive from the cottage. This holiday at a glance Sleeps two guests. Bedroom with 5' king size bed. Shower room. Open-plan kitchen and sitting room. Wood burning stove. Enclosed garden. WiFi. Gravel parking area. Sorry, no children or dogs. Minimum two night stay. Additional features Electric oven and hob. Fridge with freezer compartment. Microwave. Dishwasher. Cable television. Sonos speaker. Hammock. Hot tub. Garden furniture. Attractions and nearby amenities Cobbled streets, half-timbered houses, historic buildings, Rye is a delightful place to visit at any time of year. You’ll find lots of independent shops and cafes nestled amongst the narrow medieval lanes and passageways like Mermaid Street. St. Mary’s church tower is normally open to the public, from where you can enjoy a magical view of the houses and streets below. Camber Sands has to be seen to be believed. The beach here is vast, with a backdrop of magnificent sand dunes. People say that the best end of the beach is towards the west, where the River Rother meets the sea. If you like your history good and ancient, a visit to the town of Battle will take you back to 1066. Re-enactments of the battle are held regularly and there are arts and music festivals throughout the year. The medieval abbey is worth a visit too. Bateman’s was the last home of Rudyard Kipling, whose widow left it to the National Trust. This 17th century Jacobean house has a moat and a beautiful romantic garden too. The house is laid out as it would have been in the Kipling family’s day. Bodiam Castle is another National Trust property, also complete with its own moat. This dates back a lot longer, to the 14th century, when it was built by a knight of Edward III. The interior is now a ruin, but the exterior looks just how you’d want a castle to be. Sissinghurst Castle is famous for the garden created by Vita Sackville-West and her husband Harold Nicholson. The couple created a series of separate garden rooms, including the Rose Garden and the White Garden, with its wonderful monochromatic colour scheme. If you’re an art lover, you’ll want to visit Hastings. The town is home to Hastings Contemporary, a vibrant centre of the contemporary arts that’s just a few steps from the beach, while White Rock Theatre hosts everything from rock concerts to panto. If opera is more your thing, don’t forget about Glyndebourne, where the Festival Opera is held every summer. For additional inspiration on what to do within the area, please click here.

A true rural idyll, the APPLE BARN - recently renovated and refurbished - is a comfortable, welcoming and characterful 3-bedroomed cottage, set in a genuinely tranquil, picturesque and idyllic location, nestled amongst woodland down a private drive.
A true rural idyll, the APPLE BARN is set in a peaceful and picturesque location, nestled amongst beautiful woodland down a private drive. Once part of a large country estate, the APPLE BARN sits peacefully in the five-acre grounds of the owners’ property - Garden Cottage – which is itself set in a beautiful private one-acre walled garden. As its name suggests, the APPLE BARN was once used as a building to store apples and other fruit grown in the walled garden and nearby old orchard. Recently renovated and refurbished, the APPLE BARN is now a comfortable, welcoming and characterful 3-bedroomed cottage, located in a genuinely tranquil and idyllic location, surrounded by trees and wildlife. Upstairs the APPLE BARN has three bedrooms - including a large and rather stunning double bedroom, and two characterful, cosy and colourful single bedrooms – and a quaint bathroom with bath (no shower). While downstairs enjoys a beautiful large sitting room – with dining area – with double aspect windows overlooking woodland and the APPLE BARN'S own garden on one side, and the goat and chicken paddocks on the other. There is also a bright and homely kitchen – with second dining area – with a back door leading directly into the APPLE BARN’s pretty, enclosed (sole-use) garden, with outdoor table and chairs. Making the APPLE BARN an ideal romantic retreat for a couple, a wonderful base for a family with one or two children (a travel cot may be available on request), or indeed a great place to stay for a few friends.
While visitors may be tempted to spend all their time just relaxing and enjoying the surrounds of the APPLE BARN, there is a great deal to see and do in the area, either directly on foot or close by by car. These include: the beautiful Bewl Water lake (the APPLE BARN is situated just a few hundred yards from the well-known 13-mile Bewl Water walk and cycle route); numerous National Trust properties, including nearby Scotney Castle, Bateman’s, Bodiam Castle and Sissinghurst, with Ightham Mote, Knole and Chartwell a little further away; lovely Gardens open to the public, such as nearby Pashley Manor, Great Dixter and Penshurst Place; and Bedgebury Pinetum, a wonderful place for a saunter around the grounds (dogs welcome), or to visit with children - who may enjoy the forest playground and Go Ape! – or mountain biking is available for the more active. ‘1066 Country’ is also on the APPLE BARN’s doorstep, including the historic towns of Battle, Hastings, Tenterden and Rye. While the famous spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells is just 9 miles away, with its many restaurants, shops, theatres and well-known Pantiles area, as well as an old steam railway which visitors can journey on to High Rocks and Groombridge Place. The stunning Ashdown Forest is about 25 minutes’ drive away; as is the lovely village of Hartfield, home of Winnie the Pooh (and where visitors can play Poohsticks from Poohbridge if they wish!). A little further afield are the white beaches of Camber Sands, and the wild, desolate landscapes of Dungeness; while the buzzing city of Brighton is just one hour’s drive away through scenic country lanes, passing the lovely historic town of Lewes en-route. Numerous walks are possible directly from the APPLE BARN, including for the hungry or thirsty (and energetic) along picturesque country lanes to gorgeous country pubs such as The Bell (Apparently) or The Bull in neighbouring Ticehurst, the Greyhound or White Hart in Wadhurst, or The Old Vine in Cousley Wood (or all are easily reached just a few minutes’ away by car). The lovely Snape Wood is 5 minutes by car from the APPLE BARN, as is Wadhurst Park deer-park which is criss-crossed with public footpaths, both offering stunning views from high points of the High Weald over the surrounding countryside below. For those wanting to get out on their bikes, the APPLE BARN is a mere few hundred yards away from the extremely pretty 13-mile round Bewl Water route (bring your own, or bikes are available to hire at the Bewl Water Country Park visitor centre). Bedgebury Pinetum also offers a lovely 6-mile family cycle route (bikes can also be hired here), while for the more energetic (and fearless!) black and red mountain bike trails are available. As well as walking and cycling, a number of other activities are available from the Bewl Water Country Park and Outdoor Centre, including sailing, canoeing, rowing, fishing and riding. Boat cruises are also available on the lake, while during the summer months the centre offers family and children activities and events. For keen golfers there are a number of excellent golf courses nearby - offering short-term and/or day membership - including Dale Hill Golf Club, Hawkhurst Golf and Squash Club, and Lamberhurst Golf Club. Horse-riding is available on Ashdown Forest. For those after a little pampering during their stay at the APPLE BARN, nearby Knowle Grange Health Spa (10 minutes’ drive away) offers 'pamper days' which include use of their lovely outdoor heated swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi and a variety of beauty treatments. One-day gym membership (including use of their indoor heated pool) is also available at Dale Hill Golf Club. For visitors wishing to eat out, there are a number of charming cafes and tea-shops nearby, open during the day for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and anything else in between. There are also many excellent pubs offering great food and drink (including local beers), such as The Bell (Apparently), The Bull and the Cherry Tree Inn in neighbouring Ticehurst, the Greyhound and the White Hart in Wadhurst, the Old Vine in Cousley Wood, and The Vineyard, Chequers, Old Trout Inn and Elephant’s Head all near Lamberhurst. Wadhurst also has the very good Simply Indian restaurant, while Ticehurst has a nice Indian take-away. The nearby spa town (c9 miles away) of Tunbridge Wells also offers innumerable restaurants, from casual pizzerias to the upmarket One Warwick Place, Thackeray’s and Hotel du Vin restaurants (for those looking for somewhere a little bit special), with everything else in between. For those staying at the APPLE BARN, there is a treasure trove of things to see and do in the area. Or of course, there is the option of simply sitting back, relaxing, taking in the fresh country air and enjoying the beauty, surrounds and comforts of the APPLE BARN itself…

  • Fantastyczne udogodnienia z prysznicami, łazienkami i kawiarnią, która rano serwuje pyszne śniadanie i kawę. Bliskość pubu i zamku to idealny weekendowy wypad.

Poszliśmy do zamku Bodiam kilka minut dalej i pojechaliśmy pociągiem parowym, znowu obok farmy. Taka fantastyczna lokalizacja i Anna bardzo nas przywitała. Wrócimy następnego lata. Absolutny klejnot. Tak gorąco polecam.

  • Piękne i spokojne miejsce z doskonałym dostępem do rzeki i zamku Bodiam

    Caroline2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Zatrzymaliśmy się na 3 noce i było absolutnie idealne. Chaty mają wszystko, czego potrzebujesz ... mnóstwo przestrzeni wokół nich do odkrycia przez dzieci. Prysznice były gorące i wszystko zostało dobrze przemyślane. Wysoce zalecane!

    Elaine2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Moja rodzina przebywała w gospodarstwie kamieniołomów w chacie pasterskiej przez tydzień w sierpniu. Szkoda, że nie mieliśmy rezerwacji na dłużej. To było urocze! Gospodarze byli przyjaźni i zrelaksowani.

The studio-style room is located in a newly constructed oak-framed building that is characteristic of local styles and complements the adjacent Oast House, an old agricultural building that was originally built to dry hops in the early 19th century. Located as we are in the heart of 1066 country, the famous town of Battle, the location of the Battle of Hastings and Battle Abbey, is also just half an hour away, while the coastal towns of Hastings, St Leonards and Bexhill-on-Sea with a myriad of seaside activities are between a 30 and 40-minute drive away. Other attractions within easy reach of Burwash include National Trust properties of Scotney Castle, the gorgeous gardens of Sissinghurst and the fantastic moated Bodiam Castle. Hever Castle, once the home of Anne Boleyn, and Leeds Castle are also within easy reach. For the energetic, Bedgebury Pinetum has some great walking and cycling trails, and there is also a Go Ape concession.
