Farthings - genuine Austen charm cottage & garden

Renovated in June 2019, the house is a real haven, ideally located in the heart of Chawton village and surrounding Hampshire. Farthings was built circa 1700 for the workers of the Squires big house, which is now the Jane Austen Library in the centre of Chawton. The writer's home, now a museum, is directly opposite the house and it's said that Austen family members stayed in Farthings when they ran out of room. They certainly smoked hams for Squire Knight's guests in the inglenook fireplace.

Lovingly crafted to create a truly unique and relaxing space. Gaze up to the heavens from the Wagon's star lounge or look out across the fields from the Wigwam hot tub while the fire blazes.

The Woodshed

The Woodshed is right in the heart of the South Downs National Park, between the villages of Warnford and Exton, a secluded and peaceful space surrounded by a working farm. The Woodshed has a view of Old Winchester Hill that is magic. Activities in the area include biking, hiking, and angling, and three of the best pubs in Hampshire are within a 5 mile radius. As we are a little distance from the main track, I am happy to come and collect guests from Exton if walking.

The Stables at Warren Farm. Rustic charm

Warren Farm is 2 miles from Alton, which is famous for the Watercress Line steam railway and the home of Jane Austen. We are also on the edge of the South Downs National Park and within easy reach of Winchester and the Historic Dockyards and ferry terminals in Portsmouth. The Stables has it's own entrance from the beautiful garden room which adjoins our barn. There are country views and footpaths if you are feeling energetic! We look forward to welcoming you.

The Vestry

The Vestry, a private hideaway in a stunning sought after village location, offers a history all of its own. Located next to the Hampshire Arms pub and a short walk to The Plume of Feathers and Crondall Stores it offers idyllic country surroundings perfect for retreats, overnight stays and longer escapes.

The roll top bath is perfect for romantic bathing, with the doors open or shut.

It has good access to London via train or car and is the perfect escape to a quintessential English village and countryside experience. We love the cottage for its unique charm and warmth, and we hope to extend that to you during your stay!

Situated on the ground floor of a 17th century cottage directly opposite Jane Austen's House and next door to The Greyfriar pub and the café Cassandra's Cup where breakfast is available. Double bed can be twinned into two singles.
