Smell like a goat! Farm Experience.
Upon arrival, please take your time getting situated, there is no rush on the farm. Most often you will be greeted at your car by our boss farm dog, Bowie. Chickens and a goat or two may greet you as well. At introduction, we give a background of our farm and some of the history and faces of the farm. We partner with Laurel Highlands Brewing for their spent beer grains, available to feed the animals. At your leisure, feel free to wander and take in the property or interact with the animals. If you plan to get in the stream, water shoes are encouraged, as the rocks are slippery. But well worth it for the natural water slide! We offer you the chance to relax and enjoy a slow-paced time on the farm. Hanging out with goats may be the secret to happiness. Family friendly. Picnic friendly. Stay at your leisure.
Baby Goat Playtime and Snuggles
Spring is here! Come snuggle and play with 20 of our Spring baby goats and precious new litter of Collie puppies! (Puppies will only be available for a short time.) We are available by request from 10am until 9pm daily now until May 31st. **** We are located in Bedford, VA. Please check our location before you make a reservation. **** You will get an hour to cuddle, play and watch these fuzzy and playful baby goats bounce and zoom around the barnyard. We will be glad to answer any questions you might have about Nigerian Dwarf goats as well. We supply treats for the nanny goats. You can also visit with our adorable mini donkeys, Sammy and Joey, cute but not-so-mini, mini-pigs, chickens, turkeys, sheep and chicks. We also raise AKC registered Collies and have puppy litters throughout the year. MESSAGE US FOR OTHER DATES AND TIMES YOU ARE INTERESTED IN. *** Please wear clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting dirty. *** The goats like to jump up on people. White tennis shoes and white pants are not advised. We are five miles from the Peaks of Otter and the Blue Ridge Parkway if you would like to spend more time in the area exploring or hiking. Our 1880's farmhouse and property are under construction. We have soap, water, hand sanitizer and a portable restroom available.
Learn Craft Distilling with Professor
Your Experience at Vitae Spirits Distillery will consist of a face-to-face class with Professor Ian Glomski, the founder of the distillery. The Experience will unfold as follows within the production area and tasting room of Vitae Spirits Distillery: 1. Brief introduction to the American craft spirits revival 2. Discussion of starting materials for fermentations and their associated end spirit (rum, whiskey, brandy, vodka), with emphasis on sugar cane, the focus of Vitae Spirits Distillery 3. Review how fermentations are set up and completed 4. Summarize the theory and process of distilling a fermentation into a spirit 5. Introduce how flavors are added to spirits 6. Chat about bottling and packaging in the craft distilling environment 7. Whiskey Walk
Explore Downtown Pittsburgh with a whiskey history tour! You’ll learn why Southwestern Pennsylvania is considered the birthplace of American Whiskey, what the Whiskey Rebellion in Pittsburgh was all about, and how Prohibition affected the region in the 1920s. Scout out hidden former (as well as existing!) speakeasies around the city, and discover how whiskey has fueled political, labor and social movements throughout the region. Get to experience the revival of craft spirits in Pittsburgh and find out about the history of a local and family-owned distillery as well as the first privately owned liquor store in PA. We will begin tour with a variety of whiskey samples and end our walk in a restored Prohibition-era downtown speakeasy. This tour is roughly 2 hours long and approximately 1.5 miles of walking. Please note: a. This is NOT A BAR CRAWL but rather a whiskey history tour with a few tastings. b. This tour begins at 1049 Penn Avenue and ends at The Speakeasy at the Omni William Penn Hotel where locally and regionally produced whiskey will be sampled. c. Every participant will have to sign a waiver. d. Intoxicated Intoxicated people are not allowed on tour. No refunds will be issued in this case.
Black & Ghost Tour

Learn Beginners Mixology with Professor
Everyone loves a great cocktail, but many find all the specialized tools, exotic ingredients, and obscure lingo intimidating. This Experience aims to begin to break down the barriers that keep you from realizing your mixology dreams. You will be guided by Prof. Ian Glomski, Ph.D., Founder and Head Distiller at Vitae Spirits Distillery, through the basics of cocktail theory. Dr. Glomski is a former professor of Microbiology at the University Of Virginia Medical School that will share his expertise in spirits distillation, ingredient production, and cocktail design. The Experience will unfold as follows: 1. Equipment Overview 2. Cocktail Theory a. Balance b. Basic Elements i. Spirit: the center piece ii. Sweet: tempers heat of alcohol iii. Sour/Bitter: tempers sweetness iv. Length: dilution 3. The Mr. Potato Head Approach a. Shaken cocktail archetype= Daiquiri b. Stirred cocktail archetype= Manhattan 4. You’ll hop on the trolley and tour award-winning vineyards and breweries, sampling their offerings and taking in their gorgeous views. Sunrise Hike at Scenic Humpback Rocks
Come along on a Shenandoah Valley tradition and take in the sunrise from 3000 feet. We'll meet at the Humpback Rocks trail parking lot to embark on one of two hikes, short and steep or a 1.5-mile stroll, to a vista unlike any other in the Blue Ridge. Along the way, you'll shake off the early-morning sleepies and learn about the history and geology of the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah Valley, all in a safe, fun environment supportive of all levels of hikers or hikers-to-be. After watching the sunrise crest over the scenic vineyards and fields of Afton valley, we'll head back to the cars, a total of 3-3.5 hours.
Sunset Wine Tour
Our trolleys offer a unique way to get between vineyards. They are classic vehicles with an abundance of charm and nostalgia. We'll visit two vineyards that have amazing views, especially at Sunset. Most of the times the second stop also has live music. A great way to kick off the weekend!

Roanoke Mountain Woodland Yoga & Meditation Experience
Woodland Yoga Experience: *We will meet at the Roanoke Mountain Day Use Area/Campground off of the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway where you will find a blanket, gentle yoga music and a cooler (with herbal tea and water) all set up waiting for you. Bring your yoga mat with you, or one can be provided. *We will begin with a brief orientation where I will customize the right yoga routine for you based on your level of experience, age, and preferences. We can then begin with some gentle breathing exercises (optional) & a warm-up. *You will dive into a guided yoga session in which I will do the yoga with you and help guide you verbally, as well as offer some pose adjustment suggestions (optional). The session can be from 45 minutes to 1 hr and 15 minutes. *We will finish in "savasana" and go through a 10 minute guided meditation. *We will finish off with some hot or cold herbal ☕ tea. Your preference. Other things to note: Beginners welcome. Groups welcome, All ages welcome. All aspects of this experience can be customized to your liking in our brief initial consultation. A magical walk with goats
Join us and our goats on a walk through beautifully maintained hardwood trails. Meet the goats at the barn! To begin our adventure, we will introduce you to our goats. Learn fun facts about these funny and sweet animals as you lead them through the trails. Experience the world in a new way as you observe the goats delighting in the delicious world around them. Learn about native plants and discover which plants the goats like to eat. We will also talk about their care, diet and our intensive rotational grazing system. Depending on the day and your preference, the trail may take us over bubbling creeks, through fields filled with butterflies, to an enchanting wetland, or down through the pines to the river. Besides the goats, you will have a chance to see rare plants and animals including bald eagles, wild orchids and beavers. The trails are easy to moderate. Don't forget good walking shoes. We will finish our adventure back at the barn.
Ride the Ridge and Surround yourself with Scenic
Guests will get to learn the basic aspects of horsemanship, including grooming, tacking, and communication with the horses. They will then be led on a relaxing trail ride through the woods and get to enjoy the classic old-world scenery that northern Virginia has to offer. Down gravel roads, and through winding paths up the mountain ridge, guests may see for miles the sprawling farmland. They will encounter natural beauty from the streams of sunlight through the treetops to deer and even the great American bald eagle. If interested guests will learn about the history of the land dating back as far as the civil war and how it shaped this part of the country and community in ways that are still reflected today. Come Cuddle With Animals On A Local Micro-Farm
Looking for a fun outdoor activity for the family? Need to de-stress from the craziness of life? Cuddling with animals offers the opportunity to relax your mind and let go of the stress and anxiety for brief period. Not to mention, it's just FUN! During your visit, you will have one hour to cuddle, play with, and feed treats to the animals on our micro-farm. While we do have a couple sheltered areas in case the weather turns bad, the experience is much better when it's nice outside. If we are expecting bad weather for your booked hour, I'm happy to work with you on re-scheduling for a nicer day or time. We currently have 7 adult Nigerian Dwarf Goats, 2 younger goats who were born the first week in March, two baby goats born July and August, a year-old miniature Zebu named Molly, a rescue calf named Ferdinand, and two piglets named Charlie and Ellie. We also have numerous chickens, as well as our little Holland Lop bunnies, Oliver and Olivia. ** For the health and safety of both our animals and yours, we do not allow outside animals to visit the farm. ** **We do not have a public bathroom on-site, since this is our home. For your convenience, we do offer a Porta-John with hand sanitizer** *** For those interested, we do offer our pasture raised eggs available for purchase during your visit***
Tea Time with Goats and Horses
Come join us for tea on the farm with the goats and horses! Looking for a chance to destress, calm down and enjoy the simple pleasures of life? Guests are invited for seasonal refreshments while enjoying the entertainment of our friendly goats and horses, including Flossie and Flora, our friendly LaManchas and Chester, our adorable miniature horse. Tea will be under a tent in the pasture, guests are welcome to interact with the animals while tea is served. Tea refreshments are seasonal and include options such as mint tea, homemade floral jellies, scones and cucumber sandwiches. (For safety we cannot welcome dogs to the farm at this time.)
Up close and personal alpaca walking adventure
Shed the outside world for a few hours. Picture yourself walking among gentle and always curious alpacas. Meet alpacas up close and personal. Feel their fuzzy noses as you hand-feed them. Learn about their history, their behavior and personalities, and what makes alpaca fiber special. Take a guided walk with one of our alpacas over pasture and wooded trails. Watch a demonstration of how raw alpaca fiber is processed and prepared for spinning into yarn. Then check out our farm store where you will find yarns and roving made from our alpacas’ fleece, felted soap wrapped in their fiber, a wide selection of wearable alpaca items for the whole family, alpaca-themed gift items, and photo cards of each of the alpacas you met. After the tour, you can relax in one of our three picnic areas or explore trails through 23 wooded acres and along Ballinger Creek. It’s time to take a break, relax and enjoy the farm. We set up this farm especially for your enjoyment. SUMMER HEAT ADVISORY — It is too dangerous to alpaca health to walk them when the Heat Index is above 90°. We can still do the tour, but not walking the alpaca. What we offer in place of the walk is to have you help us cool off our critters by hosing them. We will show you how, then you can take over giving them one of their favorite activities. They are like kids playing in the sprinklers.
Fieldstone Trails - Vineyard horse ride
We'll start our ride at the corral where we'll fit everyone with their horse and saddle and take a few practice laps. We'll then set out across the field, along the creek, and up toward the bar room. After we pass the winery, we'll travel through a pine grove and up to the vineyard. We'll take a spin around the vineyard and learn about the different varieties of grapes used to make Blue Quartz wine and then stop for a few pictures. To finish up our ride, we'll walk past the pond, behind the winery, and across the field with views of Blakey Ridge and Doubletop Mountain and then head back to the corral. Other things to note: Helmets are required. All riders must sign a waiver of liability. Minimum age is 12. Maximum weight is 250 lbs.
Trail Ride with a Twist
Guests will be able to combine two wonderful experiences into one with this unique opportunity. They will be able to engage in learning about all aspects of horsemanship and the local history of the town while riding shady trails on the mountainside. Guests will be able to ride at a pace in which they are comfortable, they are not mearly limited to walking. The trail will bring guests mosing thrugh lush rows of a vineyard horseback. They will be able to get off and share in the lovely wine offerings from the vineyard's winery, Walsh Family Wines. Guests will be able to enjoy their choice of two glasses of their favorite wine or a tasting of a selection of wines. When guests book on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer season they will enjoy live music and events at the winery. Guests will be free to return to the winery after the conclusion of their ride. Farm Animal Interaction Experience
Have you ever held a chicken? Petted a cow or donkey? Introducing Butterfly Field Farm located in Bedford VA! We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity and have over 70 residents including donkeys, miniature horses, goats, pot-bellied pigs, cows, sheep, chickens, ducks and bunnies. We recently adopted our first special needs farm animals, 2 blind Black Angus Steers. Our mission is to bring awareness to the plight many farm animals face of neglect, abuse or abandonment. We love bringing people to the farm and interacting with the animals one on one and seeing first hand how gentle and loving they are. Come on out and meet our animals if in the Lynchburg / Roanoke area of Virginia!
