We are a couple blocks from the bike trail that traverses miles around our town through a plethora of native flora and fauna. The windows in the home let natural light reflect beautiful colors and textures inside and provide a window to nature.
There is a fence surrounding part of the yard and as the grass matures, a fire pit and seating in the back will be set up for gatherings around the fire. If you enjoy grilling, feel free to use the new gas Weber Spirit II grill for the perfect steak, burger or other feast of your choosing.
Inside, there is comfort and beauty in every room and extras that you shan't find yourself in wanting.

Bring a blanket and picnic on the grass or read on a lit park bench during evening hours while the kids run and climb on our historic gazebo or walk together or for inspired alone time across the street to hang out in our famous alley filled with flowers, area history and friends enjoying each other.
Dining for dinner in Oskaloosa must include Iowa’s Number One Burger which is served in an artsy atmosphere put together by a local designer and fitted with art from near and far; the Wood Iron Grill features chef inspired dinners, drinks and desserts prepared daily which also can be enjoyed outdoors overlooking one of the town’s beautiful golf courses. Weekends often include live music here. Other notable restaurants outside the city square include Great Expectations (garden fresh specialties and catering available during your stay), Pepper Tree, and many fast food options. You’ll also enjoy the Frosty Udder for soft served treats from homemade pies stirred into their famous home style blend to blackberry or other flavors featured that week!
Oskaloosa has a beautiful bike trail system that can be accessed a couple blocks from our home. Our city park is connected to this and includes one of our golf courses, a variety of picnic spots, frisbee golf course, fishing pond, play ground and swimming pool with waterslides. On this trail you can also reach Lacey Sports Complex, William Penn College, all of our schools, Bobzilla’s Bike Shop, phase one of our Solar System Walk About, our newly renovated Mahaska Conservation Learning Center which holds the Mammoth bones purchased from a local farmer in 2010 who found the head of a Mammoth femur bone in a backyard creek and soon after brought in archaeologists to find more. While on this trail whizzing by native prairie grasses, wild flowers, streams and ponds, stop at one of the many identification guides placed there by local Boy Scout or 4H clubs or sit on a bench provided by more of the same to listen to all the sounds of creatures scurrying about in their natural habitats and start that nature journal.
We have a beautiful state park with walking trails and a peaceful no wake lake ten minutes east of town and to the west a winery with scheduled fire roasted pizza nights where they encourage families to bring yard games and play together while enjoying the wine you chose after free tasting and your meal. Right near the winery is a cheese factory with morning cheese making viewable through large windows. Mahaska County has also reserved at least twenty areas for your family’s nature exploration.
We also have a couple large reservoirs for all kinds of water sports nearby, including Red Rock and Rathbun. Both have scheduled events, trail systems and water sports equipment rental. Red Rock Lake is an oasis for novice rock and driftwood collectors. The cliffs at Red Rock are beautiful and one of the best places to explore in Iowa!
Frank Loyd Wright built two homes here and inspired another builder who utilized suggestions to build his own rendition of a Wright home.
If you come during the fall, take your family to Autumn Acres, located at Stam’s Greenhouse and while your there, find something you love and buy it! All the plants at this home, vases and plant hangers came from this well loved establishment!
Even if you are able to do a handful of the options in this town, you’re gonna love it here! We’d be happy to host you again to do some more!
