This sociocultural center constructed by the Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron combines an old abandoned electrical station with new construction of floors encased with oxidized cast-iron meant to be of a similar color and weight as the brick below. It's recognisable by its vertical garden designed by French botanist Patrick Blanc. It also exhibits the work of artists from earlier time periods. CaixaForum has more than 2,000 m2 for use as exhibition halls, an auditorium with 322 seats, a media library, several multiple-usor lectures and other activities, conservation and restoration workshops, and a store-room for works of art. An ample lobby, a cafeteria and bookstore can be found there.
