The Empire Plaza (not the gift shop) & The Egg performing arts center is a great place to visit in Albany. The scale of the buildings in the plaza is imposing, and the complex is the most easily recognizable aspect of Albany's skyline. The Corning Tower is the tallest building in NY State outside of New York City; the Swan Street Building is more than a quarter of a mile long. The Main Platform of the plaza itself is one of the largest buildings in the world. The complex incorporates 240M cubic feet of concrete, clad with 600K cubic feet of stone imported from many locations on three continents. Winters have ice skating ring opportunities as well!

It's free to skate. They offer skate rentals for a small fee. Check their website for hours of operation, as they change a bit. But in general, they are open from 12-8 pm from Tuesday through Friday.
