Food Scene

I would like to recommend Lotus because of their well-tasting and broad Asian menu. They value their customers and take special requests on the fly. Reserve a table or enjoy at home.

If you care for culinary experiences, Fiskekomapniet is a must-visit kitchen. As the name suggests, «fisk» meaning fish, this place delivers an unordinary good blend of modern and traditional taste of the sea. Always locally, fresh-caught fish and a very detail-oriented staff.

Parks & Nature

Enjoy the dancing lights in the sky in this pearl of Tromsø. There is no artificial lighting, so you can see the aurora very clearly from here. Also, – 10min away by foot and it's free. There is also a pier from which people often dive from, – refreshing all year around ;)

Local, preserved and quiet. Prestvannet is a lovely little lake at the top of the island. This is also the connection point of the lighted walking/skiing tracks, which streches from end-to-end of the entire island.

Shopping

Jekta is the "go-get-it-all" mall of Tromsø. Jekta holds a big variety of different chains and also local shops in every category – clothes, electronics, quality souvenirs and coffeeshops/food. It is easy to get here and go anywhere from here, as this is a public transport hub/main station.

Essentials

The closest (and best) supermarket would be Coop. The Coop-chain is good for groceries, especially their "Extra" segment because they focus on fresh fruit/vegetables, wider sortiment and price. This is, together with Coop Obs (at Jekta), my favourite supermarkets.

Arts & Culture

Imagine Northern Norway in the 50's, back to the time the society mostly consisted of fishermen and people self-sustained of what they could hunt and farm. MS Polarstjerna is a conserved fishing vessle from that time and you get to see a cross section of history. I really recommend getting a guided tour of this vessle. It will get you the insight on what Norway is built up on top of.
