One of the best beaches in the general area. Less touristy than the 'main' Cefalù beach, this one has safe clear swimming waters, mixed pebble / sand surface, good parking, great views. The downside is the walk down a fairly steep slope to reach the beach from the coastal road. Walking back up is worse!

The stunning national park is easily reached by car from Cefalù. The roads are windy, and sometimes steep, but the volume of traffic is very low and the driving experience is great. Plenty of jaw-dropping vistas to stop and take a break. If you want to tick a box, head as far as you can up into the mountains where you'll find one of Sicily's ski resorts! Yes, skiing in Sicily - winter only of course! Incredible scenery all around, and all year round.

Cefalù has a small museum - it won't take you long to peruse the local artefacts, then nip off for a gelato! The highlight is a renaissance portrait of a noble man - the image of which is widely used in tourist literature...

Getting Around
Cefalù train station - gateway to other parts of the island, particularly along the northern coast towns and of course Palermo in the West and Messina in the East. You'll need to change trains at Termini Imerese to head inland / across the island.

Milazzo is a ferry port from where you can reach the glorious volcanic Aeolian Islands just off the northern coast of Sicily. You can reach Milazzo by train fro Cefalù or easily by car - a great, fast drive along the autostrada passing through many very long tunnels.
On the islands, you can climb an active volcano, bathe in the mineral-rich mud baths (take an OLD swimsuit!), enjoy spa treatments at the deluxe hotels, swim and snorkel in pristine waters, enjoy fresh seafood and wander through narrow lanes between white-washed traditional houses.
If you plan to stay the night (or more) make sure you take the night boat trip to see Stromboli erupting with lava - a guaranteed great night out!

Outside, the cathedral is dominated by the towering Rocca and benefits from a typical piazza with cafés and restaurants.

Panarea is a beautiful small island surrounded by crystalline seas. Enjoy a hiking trail to visit the remains of ancient settlement sites, or simply relax on one of the pristine beaches. Excellent snorkelling here. Sturdy shoes recommended as the beaches require a bit of a 'hike' to get to... take plenty of water and a hat for shade!
The entire island is walkable - no proper vehicles allowed, only golf carts, and it's a charming mix of old whitewashed houses and unspoilt scrubby clifftops.

Panarea

This is the area where my apartment is. Mainly residential but with a small beach and the main harbour within walking distance. From the main harbour you can get a boat over to the Aeolian islands during the summer months.
