Finding Frederiksberg a bit too neat? The neighbouring borrough, Nørrebro, is much more diverse and multi-cultural. Lots of great places to go out, cafés, and parks - try a walk at the famous Assistant's Cemetery, where a lot of famous artists, writers etc. are buried. It's a vibrant social place in the summer. The Hans Tausen's Park next it it as well.

Malmø/Malmoe is placed in Sweden right across the Sound (Øresund) from Copenhagen and you can get there in an hour by train, fairly cheap (buy a 24-hours return-ticket for a price-reduction). It has a lovely old mid-town section and some lovely museums and hallmarks.
