An enormous range of beers and decent bar food. Can get crowded late at night and get noisy and they don't serve cocktails. But then again it is literally a stumble walk of three minutes back home

This unassuming bar that looks like a Pabst beer place has arguably the best burger in NYC. Best to avoid the dinner hour as the lines and assembly line process will reduce the experience and quality. AND CASH ONLY

It is a bit on the expensive side but has bartenders with attitude making cocktails and opining on whiskies - good burgers but you may get a little sticker shock. Fashionable people like hanging out there

There is a diverse flow of people and all sorts of happy Pacific islands themed decor and drinks. The bartenders are your usual tattooed hipsters but with perhaps less attitude. The only problem is that the bar area itself is standing room only

Food Scene

I think this is the best K-town restaurant that will please both carnivores and vegetarians alike. It is off the 32nd street K-town strip but much better as demonstrated by the lines outside

Restaurant may be too strong but for good cheap eats - this is it. There are 5 other falafel places within 50 yards, this place always has a line and the others don't. And then you can sit in the park

The definition of morning decadence. A pastry shop that makes fantastic croissants and quiches and other treats that will definitely give you a heart attack if you ate them everyday.

A friend of mine from Manchester, UK says it makes him feel like he's eating from home (of course that is the UK version and not necessarily the original version) plus it's pretty cheap for NYC.

You can hear Italian spoken here. The place seems to be always full and it's probably because the food is very good. They set you up with a small plate of antipasto and olives. For the area, it won't torch your credit card

If you can psychologically come to terms with the thought of a $25+ burger (it does come with brussels sprouts) , it is a really good burger. With a glass of wine, you are looking at a $50+ bill including tip - it is a good burger

Arguably the best steakhouse south of Midtown and one of the best in the City. The 14oz Ribeye is excellent and the bacon appetizer is decadent. Cocktail, appetizer, steak and side, a glass of wine, and an espresso will run about $160 including tip (circa 2019). It is within easy walking distance if not too cold

This is more of a scene than Le Gigot - another French restaurant in the neighborhood. The escargot of six snails will run $22 before tip (circa 2019). Good food but it is expensive though probably part of it is the scene. Your wallet will get damaged but I think you'll have fun doing it.

Very reasonably priced food that is Italian food with a modern twist. The meatballs with truffles and special sauce with cheese is heavenly. The Lasagna is great and chocolate cake with gelato is a great ending. Appetizer, pasta dish, dessert, two glasses of house wine and an espresso was $83 including tip which is reasonable for the neighborhood.

Another neighborhood restaurant tucked away on Cornelia street. It is an "upscale" lobster shack that doesn't have any land animals except for the bacon in the clam chowder. So this wouldn't be the right place for those who have allergies or don't like seafood. But for those who do, this is a really good place and fairly reasonably priced. The clam chowder, the 1 1/2 lb lobster and a couple of glasses of wine or beer along with a dessert and a coffee is likely to be about $110 or so per person with tip (circa 2019).

A Japanese restaurant that is split into two parts (Grove St and Christopher St entrance). Reasonably priced but I would avoid the pigs feet and other unique foods if you aren't into exotic foods. There are other traditional Japanese items and it is relatively wallet friendly for the area while still being good. It is mostly small plates and four or five dishes for two people should be plenty of food. It will come in around $120 or so for two people.

The place is very much a scene. The food is decent but if you want really good Italian there are other places to choose. But people aren't going there to eat the best Italian. You will need reservations on the weekend. A couple glasses of wine, an appetizer, a pasta dish dessert and coffee will probably be around $100 to $110 per person with the tip.

It is a grocery store that has most everything that you need though I would advise going to Gourmet Garage or Citerellas if you need ready-made food.
