If you are looking for the Willy Wonka of cheese experiences, this is it! You can watch them make cheese here, taste samples, purchase specialty meats, etc. It's a beautiful drive through Amish Country if you take the back roads. Established in 1935, Bunker Hill Cheese, or Heini’s, is a third-generation, family owned company. John (Hans) Dauwaulder trained as a master cheese-maker in Switzerland and came to the States in the 1920’s to display his Artisan talents in a growing cheese market. Through the years the Dauwalder family has partnered with local farmers to produce their cheese and that commitment remains strong. Today up to twelve tons of cheese can be made in a day: we make over 25 varieties of cheese averaging 50,000 pounds of cheese a week. These artisan cheeses can be used for charcuterie boards, crackers, or even just enjoying alone. https://bunkerhillcheese.com/

This is an amazing place to visit if you are into vintage trains. There are a lot of vintage train engines/cars on the premises. You can book a tour. They even have a Roundhouse! The Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum is more than just a museum and collection. It is a living, breathing roundhouse where talented restoration specialists work to preserve the locomotives, railroad cars, tools and machinery of the glory days of railroading. This is one of the most amazing museums in Ohio, for sure! Dubbed the "World's Master Carver," Ernest (Mooney) Warther carved full locomotives out of ivory, alabaster, marble...all with knives and carving tools that he made. You have to see it, to believe it...even then, it's hard to comprehend this brilliant, artistic mind. They have daily tours. This is definitely a must-see! If you want to stretch your legs and get out on some hiking trails, Norma Johnson is just down the road and is a wonderful nature preserve. It's about a 5 minute drive. There are 2 separate locations about a half-mile apart. One is all woods, the other is a mix of woods and prairie paths (about 35 acres). Schoenbrunn Village is the site of several Ohio firsts—settlement, church, schoolhouse and code of laws. The village, restored to appear as it did more than two centuries ago, includes the original cemetery and 16 reconstructed log structures, as well as the church and gardens. A visitor center with museum and introductory video will help orient you so that you can experience the village as if you were in the past. Average visit time: Allow 1+ hours. Schoenbrunn Village, founded in 1772 as a Moravian mission among the Delaware Indians, was the first Christian settlement in Ohio. Although the village prospered for several years, pressures from encroaching settlers and British-aligned Indians forced the abandonment of Schoenbrunn in 1777, shortly after the start of the Revolutionary War. Check out their calendar of events! A great place to bring family/friends to learn about Ohio history, and go back in time. https://www.ohiohistory.org/visit/browse-historical-sites/schoenbrunn-village/

You wouldn't expect Giraffes and Zebras in Amish Country, but they're here, and much more! You can hand feed animals from your car, or join others on a wagon ride through the farm. You can also catch farming activities such as canning, milking, quilting, and baking. There is a lot to do here. "Located near the heart of Amish Country in Ohio, The Farm at Walnut Creek hosts over 500 animals, comprised of species from six of the seven continents. Our menagerie includes exotic animals such as giraffes, camels, zebras, and kangaroos along with more common animals like horses, llamas, buffaloes and deer. Visitors have the opportunity to view and hand-feed the animals from a conventional car or a horse-drawn carriage. You can also get close to some of the animals in our petting area. We are a working farm and as such, the type of activities visitors may witness during a visit change with the seasons. Depending on the time of year, you may see plowing, thrashing, canning, quilting and more. You can tour our non-electric farm houses, buy produce at our farm stand, and take pictures of all that you see. The Farm is a fun and educational experience for people of all ages" https://thefarmatwalnutcreek.com/welcome.html

Rebecca's Bistro is a great little restaurant! If you are looking for a little different fare from the "typical" Amish food choices, definitely check them out. It is located in Walnut Creek, about a 15 minute drive. Rebecca's serves breakfast Monday through Saturday from 8am to 10:30am and lunch from 10:30am to 3pm. The lunch menu includes salads, hearty sandwiches, savory soups, various entrees, and delightful desserts. All sandwiches can be ordered with our popular gluten free bread. The menu is limited in offerings, but changes biweekly to provide customers with a variety of dining options. We insist on quality ingredients and use locally grown, seasonal, fresh fruits and vegetables. The breakfast menu includes omelettes, stuffed French toast, and the local favorite—creamed eggs over toast. Plus, Rebecca's Bistro has a variety of espresso drinks, tea's, and fruit smoothies. https://www.rebeccasbistro.com/

This is the "Disneyland" of meats, cheese, bulk food, kitchen gadgetry, and more! Located about 4 miles outside of town in Walnut Creek. We've been asked what motivates 10,000 to 20,000 people to shop in our store every week. After all, the town of Walnut Creek has only 600 people. Our customers give us the best answers: · “I've never been in a store like this before. I love it!" · “It's not just the excellent food but the atmosphere at Walnut Creek Cheese." · “I can afford to stay overnight in Amish Country once a month with the savings I get by shopping in your store." · “This is more fun than Disneyland!" We've been asked what motivates 10,000 to 20,000 people to shop in our store every week. After all, the town of Walnut Creek has only 600 people. Our customers give us the best answers: · “I've never been in a store like this before. I love it!" · “It's not just the excellent food but the atmosphere at Walnut Creek Cheese." · “I can afford to stay overnight in Amish Country once a month with the savings I get by shopping in your store." · “This is more fun than Disneyland!" Indeed, we designed a store where value and fun are not mutually exclusive. https://walnutcreekcheese.com/visit-us.html
