Another local treat for that special occasion is The Cavendish Hotel. Literally a 2 minute walk away. The setting, with views towards the Chatsworth estate, is stunning. If you don’t fancy splashing out on a full blown evening meal, afternoon tea is highly recommended. Tel: 01246 58231

A top-notch cafe-come-restaurant. A relatively small menu, but see that as a good sign. Often requires booking and fairly limited opening times. Best to check out their website: https://www.charliesbaslow.com

Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts

The sports field is a great local asset for the community with cricket, football, bowls and tennis clubs. There are grassy areas where you are welcome to kick a ball around and seating to watch the matches taking place as well as the newly refurbished cafe serving an impressive array of refreshments. In the school holidays, children’s multi-activity holiday camps take place and visitors are welcome to book their children onto the camps. Contact Becky on 07855943236 or visit: https://tryumphinlife.com/holiday-camps/ The newly built Woodland Park, as its name suggests, is a park in the woods with play equipment, a wood chip running trail and bike track. A great place to take your children to. It’s located behind the sports field with access down the lane towards the caravan park.

Next to the car park is our friendly village hall. Why not have a look at the notice board to see what’s on offer during your stay? Typical activities and events include yoga, pilates and fitness classes. There are also regular art exhibitions and shoe sales where you might pick up a bargain.

Bit of a steep drag to get to the top, but oh-so worth it. The views that open up will take your breath away. Plus it's the doorway to an incredible network of paths to explore and adventure. Not to mention (proudly!) our world-famous gritstone, making this area of the Peaks a true Mecca for climbers.

Sightseeing

With this incredible country house right on our doorstep, well, it would be rude not to! It takes 2 minutes to reach the grounds if you follow the path that runs roughly alongside the river… You know you’re there once you hit an interesting twirly gate! From there it takes about 25 minutes to walk to the house along flat, well-maintained paths. Alternatively, follow the paths up into the woods - taking care to avoid the deer grazing nearby - and take in the spectacular views from the Hunting Tower at the top (a particularly great place to watch the sun set over the hills opposite). Unfortunately bikes are not permitted on the footpaths. You can also take the bus or drive. There are facilities to amuse all, be it the beautiful gardens, the farmyard, the adventure playground, the courtyard cafés and shops or, of course, the stunning house itself. For more information visit www.chatsworth.org.uk. There is also a noticeboard next to the bridge containing information on its up and coming events. You may simply want to enjoy the parkland and have a picnic by the river or play games in the wide open spaces.

Well worth a visit, with many visitors actually preferring this smaller, rustic but just as historically interesting, place to Chatsworth. It is truly charming when the climbing roses are out in bloom.
