The legend and pretty much the last real ski bar left in Vail. Ski the Mile, have a margarita with a free bowl of chips and salsa next to the wood fire and feel like a local.

This is one of our personal favorite restaurants and has stood the test of time. Always impeccable service and totally delicious food. Come off the mountain for lunch here and you won't be disappointed. Not inexpensive, but worth it!

The best sushi period. Great place to splurge! Not cheap, but world class. There are many Nobu's in the world, but only 4 Matsuhisa's and 3 are in Colorado! Request one of the banquette seats and enjoy an amazing view!

The original loaded joe's and still the largest. They usually have a theme on week nights (karaoke, trivia, etc.) and so this is a local's hangout. Skip Starbucks and spend locally on much better coffee.

Family adventure at the top of the world. Take the Lionshead Gondola to the top of the mountain and spend the day. There is so much to do. Take in the postcard views of Mt of the Holy Cross, have a beer, dine, ride the alpine coaster, take a zipline tour, go tubing (summer and winter), hike, do a high ropes course, etc. etc, etc.

You'll pay a little more, but the experience and ability to walk around vail before/after is worth it. Park at solaris and bring in your parking stub for validation = free parking.

If you think Minturn is funky then you must visit Leadville. About a 30 min drive south will bring you to the highest incorporated city in the US (10,200 ft) and a city that was once the riches mining district in the world. The mining museum brings that history into focus, but the city is also fun to explore as is the mining district just east of town on 7th and 5th streets.

Walking Mountains is a natural science education facility open to the public and is a must see especially if you have kids. Right next to downtown Avon, but tucked away in a quiet valley. A LEED Platinum certified facility ofering a Nature center to learn about local flora, fauna, geology, etc. and programs for kids and adults. Nice selection of nature trails for all abilities and they offer off site excursions as well.

Great microbrewery just down the road from Minturn. They usually have many brew selections and also have happy leaf Kombucha on tap! No food service, but there is a great taco truck usually parked just outside. They also often have great live music.
