This cool little grocery is at the "spur" of the Glenn Highway and the Talkeetna highway. You go right by it to the cabin. Has a nice selection of items, good deli, liquor market and the best music play list of any grocery I know.

A historic stop as it is attached to Nagley's General Store. This is where we first met the Mayor of Talkeetna. Mayor Tubbs was sipping water from a wine glass. Sorry to say he has since passed away. Good burgers!!

Only mentioning this as many people ask about hiking in the area. This is a campground about an hour north but is in an area where there is excellent hiking. Curry Ridge is a great steadily uphill hike where the trailhead is off the road and this campground offers a lovely hike that starts in the campground. Weather permitting, nice views of Denali and the majestic landscape!
K'esugi is the Tanaina word for "Ancient One".

Only mentioning this as many people ask about hiking in the area. This is a campground about an hour north but is in an area where there is excellent hiking. Curry Ridge is a great steadily uphill hike where the trailhead is off the road and this campground offers a lovely hike that starts in the campground. Weather permitting, nice views of Denali and the majestic landscape!

Things to do on a rainy day
Visit Talkeetna’s Historical Society - There is a wonderful topo map of Denali. Try their Talkeetna Historic District Walking Tour
Kahiltna Birch Works. See how they tap for Birch syrup and try their samples. The ice cream is wonderful, especially with the birch syrup on it.
Sit under the covered deck to watch and listen to the wildlife.
Check out Denali Brewery Taproom near the “spur”. They have a great Italian pizza oven and they source their veggies from their organic gardens on site (using the hops for compost).
Visit the Talkeetna Ranger Station. Get all the climbing info.

More rainy day activities
Walk to the Talkeetna Riverfront Park and see where the 3 rivers converge, the Chulitna, Susitna and theTalkeetna.
Canoe/Kayak fish lake- after discussing and signing a waiver. Take the paddles, life-jackets down to the lake. Two red kayaks and one green Old Town canoe are down by a dedicated dock. Slickers/rain gear are in the closet to borrow-just don’t put them back wet please.
Visit Talkeetna’s cool library in between the cabin and town.
Ride the Alaska Railroad Hurricane Flag stop Train.
