Classic French cuisine without the attitude. This unassuming little restaurant will not disappoint, but be sure to make reservations. It's located in a quaint little area off Kingsway with a few other interesting restaurants, coffee shops, a gluten-free bakery and more. It's a 30min walk, or a quick drive, bus or ride away.

If you're downtown, stop by the original Izakaya restaurant in Vancouver. Guu will quite possibly surprise you if you're used to "traditional" sushi restaurants, because that's not what this food is about. You will come away with new flavour and texture experiences you didn't know were possible. A simple favourite and available in many places now, the Ebi Mayo is still incredible. It's usually crazy busy. There's a reason.

Our local ice cream shop - small batch, original and usually with a line out the door on a nice day. Vegan options available too. Not only do we love the ice cream, but the owner too, who happens to be our next door neighbour. Seriously good ice cream. They have multiple locations too.

This is one of our favourite hiking parks in the city, located on the West side just before UBC. It's huge with lots of trails. It has that big forest feel. Hike from the south end to the north end and walk along the bluffs, then walk down to the beach for a stunning view. If you check the tide tables you can catch the beach at low tide... it's absolutely worth timing it right. You can walk hundreds of meters on the sand until you feel like you're in the middle of the channel.

No visit to Vancouver would be complete without a trip to Stanley Park. Walk amongst the old-growth trees and marvel at the sheer scale of it all. Walk, run, rollerblade or cycle around the seawall and take in the amazing views as you circumscribe the park. In addition to great trails, there's the Vancouver Aquarium, a miniature train, pitch and putt, restaurants, beaches, an outdoor pool, playgrounds and more. Rent bikes on Denman just before the park. Easily a full-day adventure.

You will never run out of trails on the North Shore of Vancouver. But if you need a place to start, Deep Cove is a great option. This is the beginning of the Baden Powell trail which goes all the way to Horseshoe Bay (across the three mountains of Seymour, Grouse and Cypress). Rent kayaks while you're there, or just take in the views.

There's plenty to do on the mountain including skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking, but if all you do is drive part-way up the mountain to the lookout, you'll be presented with the most spectacular view of the entire lower mainland, with views of Mount Baker and the Olympic Peninsula. Worth the trip and cheaper than taking the gondola on Grouse Mountain.
