There's hokey aplenty in the gift shop, however, if you need a tacky alien souvenir, or in several gift shops downtown.

If you need a beautiful, easy hike through fragrant pine trees and are willing to drive 1.5 hours, this is right off the main road in Ruidoso after you drive through town.
When in Ruidoso, be sure to also visit the Inn of the Mountain Gods for their spectacular lake and mountain views through a 40-foot window, there's a bar with the views, too.

Smokey Bear TrailIf you need a beautiful, easy hike through fragrant pine trees and are willing to drive 1.5 hours, this is right off the main road in Ruidoso after you drive through town.

Power walk, anyone? A lot of people come to the mall to do a 1-mile plus power walk when the weather is not so friendly outdoors. The movie theater is space-age modern cool with a drink machine that lets you choose your flavor, there's a Mexican restaurant there and a Thai restaurant.

It's a beautiful, winding drive with some dramatic scenery only 25 minutes from downtown, also great for solo thinking time. Bottomless Lakes is surrounded by dramatic red limestone cliffs, has a pergola for shade, restrooms and in the summer paddleboats, showers, and even ice cream for sale. There's a few trails near the lake for taking walks. In the summer, there's a very shallow beach with a lifeguard for swimming for all ages. It gets very deep in middle but there's a safety rope to remind kids where it's shallow.
