It only serves sandwiches but they are like no other sandwiches - a full meal inside delicious bread! Check their Twitter feed to confirm they're open before you go. A must-do!

The Full English (with a veggie option too) - delicious coffee too so it's the best place to go with a hangover! Breakfast and lunch only - closed in the evening.

Absolutely delicious pizza! If you like aubergine, the Pizza Parmigiana is hard to beat. They cook in a proper stone-baked oven so if you phone with an order to collect it will be ready in 10 minutes flat.

If you like strictly vegetarian, cafe-style, cheap and cheerful
Indian food, this is a quirky local favourite. The tables are small and formica-topped, the cutlery doesn't match, the service is endearingly sporadic - but the food is so great that it's packed 7 nights a week! The Masala Dosa is pure joy! Ask for the green chilli chutney with EVERYTHING, too. (BYOB from Jack's off-license over the road!)

Rowan's is a local institution. Bowling, cheap drinks and dancing til 2am (at the weekend). Our recommendation for late night drinking. Every few years some developer sets their sights on acquiring this site, and every time the locals (rightly!) organize, mutiny and protest until the threat to Rowan's goes away. Check it out while it's still there!

Our favourite place for fruit and veg! They have the best selection of living lettuces, fresh herbs, heirloom tomatoes etc, and everything is delicious, super-fresh and seasonal. They also carry a small selection of other organic and eco products. Just a lovely shop.
