There is a one day FREE walk called the Tongariro crossing that has stunning views, a fantastic day's walk. There are also smaller, easier walks at the bottom of the mountain and of course the Whakapap skifield. The conservation Dept. holds regular field trips and has an information center by the famous Chateau.
