Hlemmur Mathöll is a food hall is located 2 minutes from Njalsgata. This is where you can grab a great bite and drink from a variety of places. Seating can be difficult to get at peak hours (there are no bookings)
"Flatey" has great pizzas and we would choose pizzas from there over any other local places. The pizzas are usually ready in about 5 minutes and you can take it with you to the apartment if you're unable to find a seating
"Skál" is a cocktail and beer bar which serves great meals made with Icelandic ingredients.
"Kröst" Great drinks and steaks
"Fjárhúsið" The most Icelandic place of them all; lots of lamb dishes, the popular Icelandic meat soup and even sheeps head for those that are into that.
"Té og Kaffi" for all your coffee needs.
"Fuego" - serves Tacos

If you want a good burger I'd recommend Sæta Svínið, It's a pricey burger at 3690kr but it's a damn tasty burger. It has some other great foods and great cocktails. Happy hour is 3pm-6pm, but it's not the cheapest place for a pint.

If you catch a rare sunny day, the back of The English pub is the place to be. You can get seats outside, and from 4pm-7pm you can grab a pint for 850kr and enjoy people watching.

Brauð & co is the place to get bread. Everything here tastes yummy. The Bread is the best in town and so are the cinnamon buns. You have to try to some of the buns, or all of the buns. Cinnamon, Vanilla, Blueberry & Liquorice (this one's also a must), sometimes the raspberry.
It's hard to miss this place as there's usually queues outside and it's an extremely colourful building.

Who doesn't like dumplings? Dragon Dim Sum is the perfect place for take away or sitdown meal (if you can get a seat, it doesn't do bookings). It's a cute place located on Bergstaðastræti that has a selection of delicious dumplings and even has its own beer - Drunken Monkey.

The Burger Factory - name says it all. Good selection of burgers - chicken, beef, venison or vegan. It's a decent place not too far from the coast line.
