Sightseeing

Newgale is a stunning 3 mile long sandy beach. It has a natural shingle barrier which can take some navigating for those unsteady on their feet. The scenary and views over St Brides Bay are breathtaking. Once on the beach the sand is firm underfoot and flat. Walking along the beach covers everything from envigorating to blissful. At the northern end of the beach is The Duke of Edinbrugh public house offering the usual fare and is of good quality.

Solva is yet another jewel in the crown of Pembrokeshire. It is a quaint village with a large drying harbour which is home to many boats during the season. The harbour offers access to St Brides Bay via boat. At the time of going to press no sight seeing trips are operating from Solva. However, if you have a SUP or your own boat once the tide is in you have a wonderful safe haven in which to enjoy your sport. However, remember this is an active working harbour and it is very important to be aware of regular craft moving in and out of the harbour and navigating the mooring system. There is a delightful cafe on the quay where you can enjoy refreshments whilst watching/enjoying the harbour activity. Solva village is quaint and picturesque providing three public houses, a sea front restaurant and MamGu Welshcakes tea room serving traditional home made Welsh cakes amongst other foods. There are gift shops, a pottery and Window on Wales which has everything from gifts, to traditional jams, fudges etc to an extensive range of clothing.

Whitesands Bay is west of the city of Saint Davids and occupies a unique position looking out to an infamous set of rocks known as the Bishops and Clarks and also to the Norhtern end of Ramsey Island, an internationally famous Seal and marine life haven/sanctuary. Whitesands is a long and beautiful sandy beach with easy access and paid parking. Also from here there is very easy access to the Pembrokeshire coastal parth taking you to numerous destinations such as St Davids Head, Carn Llidi, Pencarnan beach and St Justinians Life Boat station to the left which have amazing views out across Ramsey Sound to the island.

A wonderful town steeped in history dating back to the Viking invasion. Beautiful harbour, lovely sea front at Goodwick and a busy ferry port.

Food with views

Broad Haven is another flat sandy beach. The access is more friendly than Newgale via steps or sloping ramps. Here too the walks and views are beautiful. At low tide it is possible to walk around the point to the left and arrive at Little Haven. Literally Broad Havens little sister. In both places there are public houses/restaurents which all serve good food. The Ocean and The Galleon in Broadhaven along with the Italian restaurant, we would recomend and in Little Haven The Castle Pub produce good food.

City/town information

This is probably one of the most sought afterlocations in West Wales and definately in Pembrokeshire. Often classed as one of the smallest if not the smallest city in Europe. St Davids is a delightful place. Of course the Cathedrael is the focal point along with the Bishops Palace Ruins. The Cathedrael is a wonder to behold and well worth a visit. Often during the season alongside the regular services there is a programe of choral and sometimes orchestral music. Full details can be found at the Oriel Parc information centre or on their web site. Throughout St Davids there are a number of Hotels, pubs and restaurants all of which provide a good standard of food from vairying cuisines. There are also clothes shops, and gift shops. Take a day to explore St Davids and I am sure you wont be disappointed.
