The Tower rooms are in a refurbished historic defensive tower (dating from 1574) providing a mini castle experience. Through a huge stone entrance, into an inner panelled entrance hall and through a private door up an ancient and narrow staircase to a tiny sitting area with shower room and kitchenette off. Finally up again with a spiral stone staircase leading to a romantic and secluded upper chamber. Medieval and bijoux - a micro experience of being a Laird or Lady of the House for the night.
We are based by the River Leader (also known as the Leader Water) in an exceptionally beautiful part of the Scottish Borders. The locale is littered with monuments, fine walks, stately homes, lovely shopping towns like Melrose and St. Boswells, hills to walk up and beautiful scenery. All this within an hours journey to Edinburgh by car or by train.

A light and airy spacious timber cabin built 5 years ago. It is in a very quiet location amid the fields and woods of our farm, situated in the garden of my house, once the residence of the Head Gardener for the 1000 acre Whitmuir Estate. It is situated off a private road which leads only to the farm and cottages. Cooking facilities are microwave, mini-cooker with two rings, frig and sink. Beds will be made up as king size double unless two singles requested prior to arrival. Pets are welcome.
The situation is good for those travelling on either of the two north-south main roads - A7 and A68, as the house is between these two main roads, and 5 - 10 minutes from each. The location of the Cabin is perfect for guests with pets, miles of dog walking country from the door. We have a private loch just 200m from here which is an SSSI. Golf course 2 miles away
All the adjacent properties were once part of the family estate, but the Whitmuir hamlet now has a few new houses, and self-catering properties. Surrounded by woods and fields with a good variety of birds and wildlife it is very peaceful, yet only 5 minutes from Selkirk . Other nearby towns are Melrose, St Boswells, Galashiels Hawick, Kelso and Jedburgh - all within less than half an hour's drive.

NB the rate per night is variable depending on the time of year, please check the calendar for details.
ABBOTSFORD, the home of Sir Walter Scott, is less than a mile from Weavers Linn. The Visitor Centre, where you will find an exhibition of the life and times of Sir Walter Scott, restaurant, play trail and estate paths, is open all year round and free to access. The house and gardens are open from March to November. MELROSE lies in the Tweed Valley at the foot of the distinctive triple peaks of the Eildon Hills. Its ruined 12th century abbey, at one time probably the richest in Scotland, is the burial place of the casket believed to contain the heart of Robert the Bruce. Just along the road at St Boswells is Dryburgh Abbey, whose ruins are still remarkably complete. Look out for the final resting place of Field Marshall Earl Haig and Sir Walter Scott, as well as a 22 foot high sandstone statue of 'Braveheart' himself, William Wallace, at the end of a woodland walk. Nearby is the famous Scott’s View, which is a viewpoint overlooking the Valley of the river Tweed and which is reputed to be one of the favourite views of Sir Walter Scott. Just a few miles away the picturesque country town of KELSO, famous for its racecourse, lies in a fine setting at the junction of the rivers Tweed and Teviot. The spacious town square claims to be the largest in Scotland and at its centre is still the Bull Ring, a reminder of past market days. In Kelso you will find Floors Castle, which was built for the 1st Duke of Roxburghe in 1721 and is Scotland’s largest inhabited Castle. The Royal and Ancient Burgh of JEDBURGH, which is dominated by a magnificent 12th century Augustinian Abbey, was home to Mary Queen of Scots during the autumn of 1566. The Visitor Centre has one of the country’s richest collections of pictures and objects of the life of the tragic queen, including her death mask, which is said to have been taken from her body at Fotheringay Castle. The towns of the Scottish Borders are home to one of the oldest equestrian festivals in the world, the Common Ridings, which take place during the summer months and pay homage to the region’s tumultuous past and celebrate its unique identity. The history of the Scottish Borders is deeply entwined with the turbulent era of the Borders Reivers - raiders who ruthlessly pillaged the lands on either side of the Anglo-Scots border from the late 13th to the early 17th century. At Common Ridings festivals throughout the summer, today’s residents commemorate the times when their forbearers patrolled the boundaries of their settlements on horseback defending against these fearsome marauders. This spectacular display of horsemanship and community spirit takes place in eleven of the region’s towns, with the oldest ridings belonging to Hawick, Selkirk, Langholm and Lauder. From May to August hundreds of riders saddle up for their respective territorial trots led by a standard bearer, usually elected by his local community. In some towns, the festivities can last for up to two weeks with a riveting programme of rideouts, barbeques, traditional sports, games and music, all wrapped up in the unforgettable pageantry of the Common Ridings. Wide open spaces and sensational scenery make the Scottish Borders the perfect place for walkers all year round, whether it’s a gentle stroll by the beautiful River Tweed, or something more demanding. There are some 1500 miles of dedicated walking routes including the Borders Abbeys Way, the Southern Upland Way and St Cuthbert’s Way, stretching from the high moorlands around St Mary’s Loch to the rugged coastlines of Berwickshire. And when you’ve seen everything that The Borders has to offer, why not hop on the train to Edinburgh!

In the heart of the Scottish Borders and nestled close to the market square in The Royal and Ancient Burgh of Selkirk, the apartment makes a great place to spend a few days or extended break while exploring this fabulous and intriguing part of Scotland. Selkirk itself has a fascinating history going back to William Wallace and more recently links with Sir Walter Scott.
Guest Comments 'This is a beautifully decorated flat and my daughter and I felt very comfortable staying here. We stayed here in February and needed to put on the heating. Luckily the owners had left very clear instructions how everything worked and it didn't take long before the flat was lovely and warm. The kitchen and living room are both spacious rooms and the beds in both bedrooms were very comfortable - beautiful bed linen from MS and a supply of fluffy towels. In the kitchen there is also a washing machine. Just off the kitchen is a separate dining room. The living room has a TV, DVD player and a record-player with an assortment of LPs! If you're looking for a holiday in the Scottish Borders, Selkirk is a lovely Borders town and I can recommend this property. ' Ms Wierzoch Accommodation for three over 2 floors: Double bedroom; Single attic bedroom; Sitting room; Kitchen; Dining Room; Cloakroom; Shower room Services: Electricity Heating Inc * Linen Towels provided * Fridge/Freezer * Washing Machine * Air drier * TV with DVD player * CD player * WIFI* Travel Cot * Pets welcome * On street parking in Market place (short stroll from the property) Extras: Pets £20/pet/week Pets information: Pets are allowed at this property by prior arrangement only. The other Borders Towns are close by including Galashiels, Hawick, Melrose and Jedburgh, while Edinburgh itself is only a 40 minute drive or pleasant train ride on the recently reopened Borders Railway. Montrose House is so called because the Earl and Marquis of Montrose stayed here just before the Battle of Philiphaugh in 1645. He was known to be a brave and proven General but was nonetheless heavily defeated with huge loss of life, although he himself survived. There is a commemorative plaque of his stay on the wall of the apartment. The nearby Philiphaugh Estate has various trails and riverside footpaths along the Ettrick Water. One of the trails leads to the battlefield so you can imagine the scene of 5,500 men in the desperate struggle between the Covenanters and Royalists. The Estate offers more peaceful attractions as well which include a nice tearoom close to the Salmon Viewing Centre Sir Walter Scott best known as a writer, also served as Sheriff for 33 years and his legal connections should not be forgotten. The court house that he presided over is open to the public and only a short walk from the apartment and main town square. Walter Scott's life and times can be further explored at nearby Abbotsford house. The beautiful stately home of Bowhill House is not to be missed, only 3 miles from the town. The house is set in superb grounds with access to woodland walks to suit all and younger generations will have a whale of a time enjoying organised orienteering package and amazing adventure playground- ideal for children of any age and big kids too! The wonderful Borders scenery provides a super backdrop to lots of outdoor pursuits including golf, mountain biking, fishing on renowned rivers and lochs or following peaceful footpaths through the countryside. Delightful detached cottage situated in reputedly Scotland oldest continuously inhabited village. 1 mile from the bustling Abbey town of Melrose and a mere 4 miles to Tweed bank train station where you can hop aboard and be in the magnificent festival city of Edinburgh in less than an hour. Fabulous walks right from the door including the Borders landmark Eildon Hills.
The owners Neil & Ann have lovingly restored this property as it was the first house they had when they got together. They hope one day to retire back here as it holds such wonderful memories for them and they hope they can help you create some wonderful holiday memories too.
  • Moja żona, najstarszy syn i ja spędziliśmy tydzień w Hawthorn Cottage podczas naszej wycieczki po Szkocji. Byliśmy tam, aby odwiedzić Melrose i zwiedzić okoliczne dzielnice.

Piękna kuchnia i łazienki, dużo miejsca do rozłożenia, a jednocześnie przytulne i wygodne.

Experience a unique sense of history and tradition whilst exploring the surrounding countryside rich in places of scenic and historic interest. So whether you are here for a short visit or are intending a longer stay, Rose Cottage is the perfect location to explore an area of magnificent natural scenery in what is the timeless elegance of the Scottish Borders. A two minute walk takes you into the town centre from the Cottage, convenient for access to the Railway Station, which commutes between Galashiels and Edinburgh Waverley every half hour. The Bus Station is situated adjacent to the Railway Station from which you can catch transport to almost every area within the Borders and as far as Carlisle and Berwick. You can witness each year the colour and the spectacle of the local festivals, each commemorating former deeds of honour or ancient privileges hard won and jealously guarded, or travel peaceful uncrowded roads and find pleasant wayside picnic sites. For the more active you can cast your line in the Tweed, rightly acclaimed the Queen of Scottish Rivers, or one of its tributaries, for trout and salmon in season, or swing your club on the variety of golf courses. Horse riders can mount up and ride over many of the green paths, or why not cycle along pleasant by-roads. If you are a walker the freedom of the hills is yours, and why not take advantage of the Southern Upland Way which lies on our doorstep. Local tourist attractions within the town include the War Memorial and Clock Tower which takes the form of an old Border Peel Tower designed by Sir Robert Lorimer, the architect responsible for the Scottish National War Memorial in Edinburgh Castle. The tower house is guarded by the life size mounted Border Reiver made by sculptor T.J .Clapperton. Also worth a visit is the beautiful fifteenth century mansion that is Old Gala House in whose grounds Rose Cottage was once a part. Nearby Abbotsford, home of Sir Walter Scott, still stands as a monument to the man whose shadow lies over this beautiful area of Scotland. Parking - Street parking is outside the property, there are no parking restrictions, avoid busy work hours, but spaces always available between 6am - 8am, then evening 6pm onwards. There's free street parking all around the town but this street does get busy but you'll always find a spot.
Very central to the Town Centre in a quiet location, close to shops and to Heriot Watt University and the Borders Railway. Galashiels is one of the larger towns in the Borders and we are situated a 2 minute walk from the town centre and rail and bus links. Galashiels has many shops, we love to shop local but there is a 24 hour Asda and Tesco. There are great pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes. And for entertainment there are parks, MacArts Venue for live bands and entertainment, there’s a cinema, a great gym and swimming pool. Other town and villages nearby are Melrose, Selkirk, Jedburgh, Kelso, Hawick and Peebles. There is a train to Edinburgh which takes 50 minutes. Places of interest include the Melrose Abbey, Abbotsford House (home of Sir Walter Scott) and much more. Surrounding towns are Melrose, Jedburgh, Hawick and Kelso. There are also many wonderful scenic walks in the Scottish Borders and our town is renowned for fishing, rubgy and biking trails.
