Enjoy absolutely amazing Alpine mountain view and outdoor experience! The cottage was designed as a summer get-a-way in the mountains and is very open and bright. The house is bright and airy – the entire living room opens onto the garden, and includes a Japanese style tea-room that opens on two sides. The area is full of attractions but you’ll end up wanting to just relax on the covered deck taking in the view. The garden overlooks terraced rice fields for a secluded feel just minutes from every convenience. Small but fully equipped kitchen, bath, washer, everything you need for an extended stay. Situated in a lovely garden with lots of trees,the house overlooks the Inadani valley which separates Japan’s stunning Central and Southern Alps.
The small kitchen is equipped with a full-sized refrigerator, gas stove, combination microwave/convection oven, kettle, rice cooker, and all the crockery and cutlery you will need. The living and dining area, with sliding doors all along one side, opens directly onto the wooden deck. There’s a 42” flat screen TV with terrestrial channels, or use the HDMI port to watch your own videos. Two sides of the Japanese tea room open directly onto the garden so you can sip your matcha and watch the maple leaves drift down in the fall. The bedrooms are both equipped with comfortable beds and fabulous views (one with its own balcony).

・There is an old laundry machine in the house which you are more than welcome to use.(Washing machine only, sorry no dryer)
・There is parking for two cars and additional parking at a nearby park (about 50 m / South side) that can be used if the drive is snowed in. There is a gate right outside the front door that opens onto a paved road or the property can be entered from a small side path that leads to the parking spot in the back. (Please enter from the south side of the path as it is much easier.) It’s OK to park on the path if you don’t wish to pull into the parking space as this house is the only one that uses the path.

・Pets are only allowed outside of the house. The garden and the wooden deck with a roof is available for your pets. Please be sure to bring their leash since there is no proper fence around the garden.
Within 10 – 15 minutes walking distance there are several restaurants, hot springs, and souvenir shops. The local specialty is sosu katsu – a breaded and deep fried pork cutlet with the local sauce on top. It’s really good! Just across the main road is a restaurant with a traditional thatched roof and complimentary hot spring foot bath that serves up a great one.
Within a 5 minute drive there are convenience stores, supermarkets, a home center, and even fast food outlets if that’s what you crave.
Komagane City is situated in the center of Inadani Valley, from where you can see South Alps (Akaishi Mountains) to the east and Central Alps (Kiso Mountains) to the West. The cottage is conveniently located on the side of the valley near to the tourist village.
Komagane and the Inadani Valley are full of great things to see and do in all season:
-Ski and Snowboard at the Komagane Kogen Ski Resort. This is a small resort with two lifts and a sledding hill, great for kids and families. It’s mostly frequented by locals and is rarely crowded. They offer full-gear rental, lessons, and night-skiing, and lift tickets start at just 2600 Yen. Open December – March. The lifts are just a 2 minute drive, or 15 minute walk from the cottage. If you are looking for more of a challenge there are many other resorts in the area, the world famous Hakuba grounds are a little over an hour away by car.
-Hiking and incredible views from the top of the Senjojiki Cirque. There’s a shuttle bus stop within a few minutes’ walk from the cottage that takes you to the Komagatake Ropeway. From there you can ride a gondola to the top of the world and enjoy absolutely stunning views. On a clear day you can see Mt. Fuji! Even in the summer it’s cool enough at the top that you’ll need a jacket and the mountainside is covered with wild flowers.
-Nagano is famous in Japan for its fruit, and Komagane is famous in Nagano for having the best. The valley is full of small orchards that will allow you to pick your own. Depending on the season you can enjoy Peaches, Grapes, Pears, Apples, Plums, and a variety of berries.
-Hot Springs! There are number of Japanese hot springs in the area, the best is Komakusa no Yu which is just 1 km away. They also serve a good Sosu Katsu.
-Family Play Land. Alps no Oka Family Play Land is a camp-site and family attraction with put-put golf, tennis, trails, and all kinds of play grounds. It even has its own hot spring bath. Just a little over 2 km away.
-Kozenji Temple. The local temple dating back nearly 1200 years. With its 3 story Bell Tower, the buildings and gardens rival anything in Kyoto. Photographers come from all over Japan to take photos of the cherry blossoms in the spring. About 1 km away.
-Adventure! This part of Nagano is crisscrossed with narrow mountain roads leading to forgotten little hamlets. Whether exploring by car or by bike, meandering around the area will put you in touch with nature and surprise you with hidden waterfalls and stunning vistas. The area is very rural, you’ll be amazed that you’re only 150 kilometers from Nagoya.
Places to Visit for One Day Trip from Komagane:
〇Less than an hour by car from Komagane is Suwa-ko with beautiful lake scenery and nearby Takashima Castle.
〇About 40 kilometers away from Komagane is Achi village with Hirugami Hot Springs and stunning night sky.
〇Within a daytrip from Komagane are the best preserved towns of the Nakasendo (Kisoji), Narai-juku,Tsumago-juku and Magome-juku.
