Imagine walking through a natural space that inspired you so much that composing a Pulitzer Prize winning novel was the result. The human condition interpretation, 'Pilgrim at Tinker Creek' by Annie Dillard, was composed as she lived and walked along this ancient waterway right in our own backyard. It has “that sense of place" most everyone desires… and it happens to be our backyard in the middle of a 60 year-old neighborhood!! Former residents and artists Bill and Sarah Kolher poured their heart and soul into this Shangri-la for 20 years before us as they traveled the world and brought that experience here for others to enjoy. As stewards of this land and water for the last 21 years, we are pleased to now offer the Kolher's former art studio as our ground-floor Guest Suite to Airbnb clients who want to experience this life-style first hand. The Creek of Tinker Mountain flows through and around this Pre-Cambrian monolith and has been the “sound of life" for us as the waterfall's song is ever-present in the background ambient of this suburban paradise. More than a place to crash... this is a destination experience for our global clientele. An excerpt from Annie Dillard's famous novel follows: “I live by a creek, Tinker Creek, in a Valley in Virginia's Blue Ridge. An anchorite's hermitage is called an anchor-hold; some anchor-holds were simple sheds clamped to the side of a church like a barnacle to a rock. I think of this house clamped to the side of Tinker Creek as an anchor-hold. It holds me at anchor to the rock bottom of the creek itself and it keeps me steady in the current, as a sea anchor does, facing the stream of light pouring down. It's a good place to live; there's a lot to think about. The creeks—Tinker and Carvin's—are an active mystery, fresh every minute. Theirs is the mystery of the continuous creation of all that providence implies: the uncertainty of vision, the horror of the fixed, the dissolution of the present, the intricacy of beauty, the pressure of fecundity, the elusiveness of the free, and the flawed of the present. The mountains—Tinker and Brushy, McAfee's Knob and Dead Man—are a passive mystery, the oldest of all. There is the one simple mystery of the creation from nothing, of matter itself, anything at all, the given. Mountains are giant, restful, absorbent. You can heave your spirit into the mountain and the mountain will keep it, folded, and not throw it back like some creeks will. The creeks are the world with all their stimulus and beauty; I live there. But the Mountains are HOME!"--
Please come share this private paradise with us for several days or a few weeks! See you soon!

Our valued guest would have access to the immediate back yard just outside the secure private entrance. Enjoy our lower brick deck w patio furniture and the separate creek yard accessed by several creek-stone pathways that mimic the waterfall. The Creek yard setting w Zero gravity lounge chairs and pop-up shade canopy affords inspiration/ meditation/one-nation experiences with long views of Tinker Creek and Mountain! This is the same property that inspired Annie Dillard's famous Pulitzer Prize novel "Pilgrim at Tinker Creek". Waterfowl are present most days and the waterfall sound is very enjoyable and can be heard from the suite w windows open on nice days and nights. (Note: the creek is not visible from inside suite but creek view is just a 15 ft walk across the back yard to our main GaZenbo. The Cliffs of Tinker ARE visible from inside suite.) The knotty pine paneled Bedroom easily doubles as an office space. There is nearly 10' of open Formica counter space w office chair, under-counter alcoves, separate counter lighting, multiple power outlets and free Wi-Fi access. There is also a large dressing mirror and a lighted vanity mirror in the bedroom for the ladies convenience.
