Unfortunately, I was out of the country during the alleged attempted intrusion and am therefore not in a position to judge the veracity of this complaint. Both my onsite manager and her husband, who were home, awake and well within earshot, however, say they heard nothing and express strong skepticism that it actually occurred. And I must also add that, in the three-plus years that we have operated this site as an AIRBNB rental, nothing like this has ever happened and, if it did, would be completely out-of-character for the neighborhood. Despite our skepticism, of course, we granted Risa a full refund. One last detail: the casita has a front door and a back one, but no side entrance, so I'm not sure exactly to which door she is referring. Also, the locks are standard, found in most houses in this area and, frankly, all areas with which I am familiar. Regarding the cockroaches, again, my manager assures me that she thoroughly cleaned the place before the guests' arrival and saw nothing. That said, Joshua Tree is, after all, in the desert where such varmints are not uncommon. Whenever we hear reports of them on our property, we take immediate steps to curtail their presence and, of course, will do so again. Regardless of what did or didn't actually happen, we are sorry that Risa did not enjoy her brief stay with us and wish her better luck in her future travels.
