Marielos was an incredible host. Overly generous and quick to respond with any request. The house itself is amazing. Over looking the ocean it really does earn the name of "sunset" house. 100m walk to the beach in a safe and secluded gated neighborhood with 24hr security. 4-5 adults fit comfortably with 2 queens and one twin bed. I can't say thank you enough to Marielos for everything she did for us during our trip and the house was a phenomenal choice for anyone looking to be close to the beach and have the amenities of a fully equipped and inviting home

We have fallen in love with the Playa Negra area. So many beautiful sights, beaches, restaurants and cafes. As a family of with two children we spent most of our days at the beach in Avellanas, and the beach in Playa Negra when it was lowtide. Both are great for both swimming and surfing. The surf has been great the entire month we stayed at the house. Playa Negra beach is just a three minute stroll from the house. The house has a lot of potential. We did read the earlier reviews of the house, but unfortunately we have a different experience. You know the sight of all those uncompleted houses and condos that you see around the world that weren’t finished because something stopped the funding? That's the case here. The house is unfinished. Loose cables coming out of the walls, the bedroom without ac is way too hot to sleep in, the fan in the other bedroom is not connected, cracks everywhere that ants and mosquitos easily crawl in, we had a fierce scorpion in the bedroom one night when we were putting the kids to bed. We know wildlife is part of the Costa Rican experience, but there are degrees. We lived in cheaper places in wilder areas without these problems. It is frustrating laying in the bedroom getting stung by mosquitos as you are looking up at the nonfunctional fan that would have solved the problem. One shower doesn’t work. The other shower is very temperamental, we put on cold water, all of a sudden it turned to really hot, our daughter got scolded. There is no hot water in the washing machine, so clothes does not really get clean. I could go on. It is the most overpriced house ever. The husband of the host, Yvan, is very forthcoming and helping, he tried to fix the largest cracks, but this was difficult as he said all the mosquito screens have the wrong dimension for the windows… The house has a kind of tin roof which makes it absorb all the heat from the sun, it’s like an oven in the daytime, at least 15 degrees hotter than the three other places we stayed on the same coastline in Guanacaste. One day we got back the electricity was out. It was unbelievable hot inside and all the food in the refrigerator was destroyed. The host were unreachable on phone. All the hotels in the area were fully booked so we had to drive a long way to get a room for the night. The host said she forgot to pay the bill, but later changed the explanation to that it was the electricity company’s fault… She was really stingy about reimbursing our expenses, in the end it was her husband that helped us. The host were not there to meet us on the agreed day when we arrived, it was really hard to reach her. She thought we were coming the next day, though it was...

Thank you Lars for your pathetic review. The following response is first for the Airbnb community then for you to think about it. First I did a very good offer to Lars and family, more than 50% off the original price. If I was not in person to receive him, because I do have a job, my husband was there, punctual. I tried all of the time to do all the best, to accomplish all Lars request. The only day I wasn't able to answer inmediatly his call the electricity problem was resolved in two hours from his first call. 90 percent of the houses in CR have tins roof. Lars forgot to say that the AC on the main bedroom is functioning very well. The description of the house as a ruin is of course ridiculous. I have been very nice , ¡perhaps too kind with this people , I'am transparent I don't feel them the same way. I can also see in Lars review a kind of machism, you don't need to be a psychologist to see it. Lars seems to be the kind of person looking at analysing every single detail in a negative mode to use it against you and why not ask to be refund when he already accepted the conditions of the rental. Be careful with this person that never look at you in the eyes I'am a Swiss citizen I know what it means. I definitely don't recommend you to rent him your house if you don't want to have problems, over all if you don't want to have a big cleaning after his check out. What a dirty house Lars seemed to like Playa Negra, not sure Playa Negra appreciated him

The house was exactly as pictured and was set just a little off a beautiful ocean cliff side with paths down to the beach. The place was very clean and we were met very promptly with keys and instructions. We spent an incredible New Years at playa negra and I would recommend it. It would be best to have a car though since it is a quieter area if you'd like to venture out. Great surf spot!

Maria was a great host. She welcomed us to the home with Costa Rican coffee, as well as a selection of imported wine! She had great recommendations on restaurants and beaches. The house was simple, clean, and comfortable. We LOVED the town of Los Pargos, and the Playa Negra beach was fantastic. Great experience!
