This beautiful self-contained annex has been described as a small hotel. Creatively designed to give its narrow shape a ship like quality, it is clean, cosy & close to great views & hikes, offering a peaceful retreat for quiet souls & country lovers. Ideal for 2, with potential to sleep 3 - a couple & child or 3 close friends (the shower is inside the bedroom & the 3-bed set up inhibits the living space. Kitchen is fully equipped & there's lots of choices for eating out.

Miejsce
Den of Allachlade (or Den of Marmalade as we like to call it) has been "mine" (Vicki) since 1993 when I was pregnant with my daughter, Jessica. It has morphed through several stages, survived divorce, accommodated therapy, workshops, all sorts of weird and wonderful events and has seen the transformation of many beautiful folk. It really has a special vibe to it, a Scottish twist on a Laurel Canyon type commune! It somehow manages to be family home, therapy centre and base for travellers, professional nomads, volunteers, holidaymakers, spiritual seekers... all in one go.
As for me, I am an author - 2nd book coming up! Hypnotherapist, NLP-er, etc, etc. I am an active meditator and Sanyasin. I work mostly from home, and love to provide therapy and teaching as optional extras, please enquire if you’d like to know more. We do our best to make your stay special without getting in your face - tell us what you need.

In the East Annex you get to enjoy your own covered porch with a small table and chairs which leads into a lovely seating lounge area connected to a well-equipped kitchen. There's a lovely bright sunroom with a window-seat, strewn with comfy cushions, and which doubles as extra bed. The bedroom, with comfy double cabin bed, has en-suite shower inside on open plan.

As a bonus, the red chaise lounge can be used for an extra bed if needed. However, we have no window covering there, so a no-no for anyone who needs blackout! I also have a desk and chair if you plan on working from here - just let me know and I'll set it up for you whichever way you prefer.

I have hosted a few 'month or more' guests since Covid, some of whom have quarantined here. After the two week period, some used the rest of their time here to get out in nature, others finished PHD research, one completed a novel, another a self-help book while teaching yoga classes on Zoom and working out in the stone circle. It has been a great new step for us, I've enjoyed the opportunity to get to know guests in a different way. I have a list of where to order food and more up my own street buy local organic veg boxes, the weekly fish man, game van & etc. I'll help you work out how it can work for you.

Dostęp dla gości
The East Annex is self-contained, having it’s own entry from the driveway, so there is no need to access any of the other buildings or the main house
In the summer, our guests enjoy sitting outside the porch or in the stone circle to eat. You can use anywhere in the north side of the garden except the Zen garden at the back of the Fairy Penthouse. The south side is for the other rooms, unless you are joining us for dinner in the summer when we are eating outside on the south facing decking.

The adjoining patio doors, alongside the sunroom, which connect to the main house are locked and screened / curtained off for your privacy. You are also welcome to use the pagoda and fire pit area at the bottom of the garden, it is a lovely peaceful place to sit. Please just be aware that you will be passing the bedrooms and therapy rooms on your way. Once you are there, we can’t hear normal range voices.

Inne ważne rzeczy
PLEASE KEEP THIS IN MIND WHEN BOOKING:

The East Annex kitchen should have all you need, and I am happy to lend anything else. The only permanently set up dining space is in the porch area – it is a tiny table and 2 chairs but we also have 2 stools in the garage – just ask. This is no problem in the good weather when you can eat outside, but at other times it means you have to take the outdoor table and 2 chairs in or sit with the food on your lap.

The East Annex is set up for two people sleeping in the double bed in the bedroom. We can make beds available for a third person (even a fourth bed available if you ask) there are extra person charges for more than 2 people and a linen’s fee per extra beds. If only two people take the room but prefer a bed each there is a linen fee but no extra person charge.

While we are happy to make up beds we can actually have 4 people sharing this space. The extra bed/s is possible in the window seat in the sunroom or the red sofa in the porch sitting area, but please note that there is no window covering, so we offer airline type sleep masks. (Please do not hang towels or clothes over the windows or doors)! If you are using the couch bed in the window seat area, you will be located next to the locked patio doors connected to the main house. Your privacy is maintained by an attractive Japanese room divider on your side, as well as curtains on my side which will be closed at bedtime. You may hear me switching on the kettle in the early morning, I am not noisy but if you are a light sleeper you will hear me.
Finally, because of the en-suite shower room - it is actually inside the bedroom, sharing works best with families and close friends. It’s one of those things that works fine for most people but may cause discomfort for others. Overall, having more than 2 or a small family of 3 has been a negative experience for us - It may surprise you that I still offer it. There is a plus, many people pass through on a pit stop tour, and are delighted with clean accommodation at a very fair price along the way. A traveller myself, I appreciate that. So, I happily make up those beds, after confirming you have actually read this - no offence but that happens a lot, so it’s best to avoid misunderstandings up front.

Aboyne is a quiet village. Enough so that in the morning it's quite common to see grazing deer in the fields or even in our garden.
Have a look at the guide to see the local points of interest (there's way more than in here).
It's a great place to come and relax, far away from the hustle and bustle of cities.

Aboyne (Scots: Abyne, Scottish Gaelic: Abèidh) is a village on the edge of the Highlands in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on the River Dee, approximately 26 miles (42 km) west of Aberdeen. It has a swimming pool at Aboyne Academy, all-weather tennis courts, a bowling green and is home to the oldest 18 hole Golf course on Royal Deeside. Aboyne Castle and the Loch of Aboyne are nearby.

Outdoor pursuits include golf, walking, cycling, and gliding from the airfield just outside the village. Aboyne has become popular with gliding enthusiasts from Britain and Europe due to its suitable air currents (due to the surrounding terrain). The airfield has two parallel tarmac runways running east-west, a webcam and small weather-monitoring centre on its premises.

While we 100% aim for a personal service, I do have a life and career outside being an AirBnB host and am simply not here all the time. Through great communications with you, the guest, and a great team who supports me, we endeavor to make your stay joyful & memorable. If I know ahead of time of any special requests, I will certainly do my best.

Nevertheless, please keep in mind this is a working home, where I see clients here (on and offline) on a confidential basis. I teach things like meditation, and I write. They are all quiet and peaceful activities, and so it’s best not to knock at the door, as you may interrupt a session unknowingly. There are clues, for instance, if you see a sign on the box to the right of the main door saying DO NOT DISTURB and the door is locked that means I need silence. So, while I love to interact, if we can all catch each other at the right time, during working hours, I'm afraid it can be disruptive. So please ask all the questions you can think of before arrival, and after that by text or email or catch me at dinner time.
