We are the Johnson family and we want you to come and enjoy “Glamping” on Cedar Ridge Ranch. We were city kids from Lake Forest Illinois. Randy and his brother were inventors (he loves to tell you about his inventions), I was in advertising and worked for Family Circle Magazine ( I have amazing “Mad Men”) stories. About 20 years ago a series of life changes caused us to say “life is too short" and we pulled up our roots and came West and bought our ranch. Merrill and I remember the day when we were talking about having a ranch and some one in the crowd said “Oh my gosh, I know this ranch that is one of the prettiest ranches in the valley and it is for sale”. Merrill and I had to go immediately and when we drove down the driveway with wild turkeys crossing in our path, we looked back at Mount Sopris and and looked at each other and said “this is our dream”. We want to share this with you.
Our daughter, Merrill has really been the visionary for the farm. Majoring in Sustainability, she is passionate about being good stewards of the land and sustainable farming. We raise Zebu cattle, chickens and recently acquired a herd of Alpacas and miniature milk goats. Our vision has been to open up our ranch to guests and artists and share the dream that we have been lucky enough to live. Agritourism has been popular in Europe and Italy for a long time but is new to the United States. We are so excited to be one of the first farms in Colorado area to be involved in Agritourism. We are looking forward to showing you around our ranch. We offer such a serene setting with fabulous views of Mt. Sopris. Merrill is the cowgirl and will give you an amazing horse experience. You can wake up in the morning and collect fresh eggs and bacon and end your day catching fish from our pond, sitting on your deck with a glass of wine and gaze at the stars. We have been amazed at how many guests have told us that because of light pollution they don’t see the stars. We are a working farm so if it fits your fancy you can learn about Zebus and Alpacas or muck horse stalls .We have loads of trails to hike as we have public land attached to the ranch. We have a new family of piglets that are super cute and our Alpacas love to give kisses and we offer “Alpaca Yoga”. We have so enjoyed meeting folks from all over the world. We have turned our barn into studios for creatives and as a lodge for our guests. I am a scrabble fanatic so let’s play. We have a Mongolian yurt that is great for families. It has a big deck and a nice big round table for dinner. Our romantic “0ut of Africa” safari tent has a comfy king. We have a brand new family safari tent we call the “Star Gazer” and our cozy “Cowgirl Cabin”. We have just restored our farm house so will will be open all year. When you visit us you will “ come as friends and leave as family”. Pam, Randy and Merrill.
