Refurbished farmhouse in a quaint shepherd village, directly at the foot of the Carpathians. Located in a peaceful spot, just around the corner of Sibiu. The right choice for those who want to taste the breath of the past on the edge of civilization.
••• CASA PELU ••• The property is situated in the shepherds village of Vale, directly at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains. On the one hand, far away from the pulse of time, on the other hand just around the corner of Sibiu, the European Capital of Culture 2007.
The village of Vale is nestled between the wooded mountains overlooking the Transylvanian plain. No through traffic, in an absolutely peaceful spot, surrounded by a healthy mixed forest. Leaving the house behind you already find yourself on the way up to the mountain meadows with their unique flora and fauna in Europe. So take a break and treat yourself a place, where unspoiled nature meets history and traditions.
On the solid foundations of wine cellar and mezzanine floor we've set a new attic with access to a cozy roof terrace. So this cottage is also a good choice for those who are curious about how traditional architecture can be extended to modernity.
The double-door walk-in kitchen (13 sqm) is located on the mezzanine floor. It is fully equipped for self-catering with a fridge, gas stove, coffee maker and espresso machine, toaster, kettle, spices and more. The first room (17 sqm) leads off the kitchen. Three windows open the view out to the courtyard or an alley, where goats and sheep are passing by in the evening.
A staircase leads to the two light-filled rooms in the attic. The first one (13 sqm) is a connecting room and the second room (17 sqm) leads out onto the roof terrace. The view goes into the courtyard, into wooded mountains or up to the roofs of the village.
The rooms are equipped with a double bed, mirror cabinet, corner bench or armchairs, WiFi Internet access and two TVs (international channels by Astra Satellite). On arrival you will find the beds freshly made.
The bathroom (8 sqm) used to be the the summer kitchen of the farm. It is located underneath the roof terrace and is equipped with shower, bathtub and washer. Hand and bath towels, soap and shower gel are available.
The furnishing is high quality, including sanitary facilities, kitchen utensils, mattresses and bedding. All furniture, newly installed windows, doors and stairs were consistently made to measure. Each floor and the bathroom are equipped with an electrical infrared panel.
The solar-assisted central heating is backed up threefold. Either you fire up the water-bearing tiled stove in the kitchen which supplies all the radiators in the house, or an automatic control takes over the job and starts a gas heater and / or the infrared panels.
The enclosed courtyard is a leafy feast. Here you can relax on another covered patio, uncork a bottle of wine and unpack the card game. Or take place on the slope above the village, look into the vastness of the valley, and you will be surprised about the thoughts popping up in your mind out of nowhere.

••• We provide more than just one cottage •••
We aren't studied tourism experts. We live in Vale and joined together in a small and family-type construction company. By this company, we have given five houses a complete overhaul or constructed them from scratch. With attention to detail all along, with respect towards the traditional style of the area, but also with a view to modern building materials and contemporary housing needs. The result is the encounter of different ages and cultures in five oasis of wellbeing, each of them with their own flair, distinctive and special in a place which – we hope – will be sidestepped by the world's hustle for a long time to come.
After eight years of work - with many possibilities for creative design - we put trowels and planing aside for a while, breathe a sigh, and are pleased to present:
••• VILLA CRINA - the icing of our resort with 200 sqm of living space and terraced garden – for 8 people.
••• CASA PELU - the former farmhouse with extended loft and roof-terrace – for 6 people.
••• CASA NICU - the 120-year-old cottage with the appropriate historic flair – for 2 (to 3) people.
••• VILLA ZOLLO - the new 150 sqm holiday home on the hill with panoramic views and large garden – for 6 (to 8) people.
••• CONDO ZOLLO II - well equipped apartment with large terrace, BBQ and garden – for 2 (to 3) people.
••• COZO FANTU - our shepherd hut in the mountain meadows – for 4 people.
Of the income of the vacation rentals (so your money) on one hand the 'investor' is served. On the other hand, the administration allows two families an extra income. When we cook for you, if you order local products, plan a trip in a horse cart or rent a car, other villagers have a benefit. Finally, we are planning a soup kitchen for the less well-off families in the village which also will be financed from the proceeds of the accommodations.
We foster a climate of openness and equality-based relationships.
• Pets welcome
• Smoking outside only
• Not suitable for wheelchairs

I have been living in the village of Vale in Romania since 1998, commuting regularly to my second universe in Berlin. My Romanian friend and I set up a small construction company together 10 years ago, which is earning us a living in the surrounding villages.
During this period, 5 holiday houses were built which, from the first day of rental (2010), have been receiving visitors from all over the world. We were lucky with the investors. They wanted quality - and got it - and there was never any stress over money. So we could exercise our creativities, and everybody involved received wages well above local standards. Thus emerged a battle-tried squad of regulars; boys and girls who stand together even beyond working issues.
Today we manage the cottages mutually – i.e. the same actors which built or repaired them are now maintaining them as a team. We share receiving the guests, doing renovation jobs, gardening, or cleaning, and one of us cooks the best traditional menus this side of the Carpathians. I myself maintain our website and communicate with you.
If you want to experience Transylvania on your own, just call on me. I’ll support you with answers and advice from your first idea all the way to your arrival. If you find the journey by car too far, we’ll pick you up at the Sibiu train station or airport, and on request there’s a private rental car or bikes waiting for you..
Then we’ll hand you a key and leave you alone. Unless you want me to tell you about all the things you can do here in the mountains, in the valley or the old town of Sibiu, and where to find the closest fortified church, Dacian excavations, a lake, or the ‘Bear Cave’. Or we can sit down on the terrace with a fine wine or home-made Schnaps, and I’ll draw up a picture of the region’s history and reality for you. A region that I love because, its vital nonchalance, despite all the hardships, still sends my spirits flying …
