New cottage in the quaint shepherds village of Vale with 150 sqm living space, large gardens and panoramic views of the valley and forested mountains. Located in a quiet place, where unspoiled nature meets the breath of the past and traditions.
••• VILLA ZOLLO ••• New holiday home at the hillside with panoramic view in all directions. Located at the edge of the shepherds village Vale in an absolutely peaceful spot. The only through traffic consists of one or two horse carts bringing in the hay from the nearby hills. You may expect sprawling bright rooms, exceptional cleanliness, and the comfortable indoor climate of a rear ventilated larch-facade. This villa is a good choice for lovers of details and those who enjoy rustic particularities.
The village is nestled between the wooded mountains overlooking the Transylvanian plain. On the one hand, far away from the pulse of time, on the other hand just around the corner of Sibiu, the European Capital of Culture 2007. Leaving the accommodation behind you already find yourself on the way up to the mountain meadows with their unique flora and fauna.
We rent out this cottage since June 2013. It provides 5.000 sqm garden and spacious rooms for 6 (up to 8) people.
The large living room (34 sqm) with oak parquet is located on the mezzanine floor. It includes an open kitchen, a brick fireplace, LED TV (Astra Satellite) and ten seats at two tables. From the adjoining balcony you can take a look into the valley or follow the sun as it goes down right between the crests of two forested mountains.
The open kitchen is fully equipped for self catering with a large fridge combo, gas stove, coffee maker and espresso machine, toaster, kettle, spices and more. The first room (17 sqm), with windows opening to the East, South and West, is accessible from both the living room and the outer hallway. Also the first bathroom (3 sqm) adjoins the living.
An interior staircase leads to the two light-flooded rooms in the attic, the larger with oak floors and balcony. With their 24 and 32 sqm, they can easily be used as lounge for an entire group. Dormers and windows are opening in three directions and allow the sun to spread in the rooms any time of day. The view is impressive: into the vastness of the valley, onto forested mountains and in good weather up to the snowy peaks of the Fagaras Mountains. The second bathroom (8 sqm) with shower, tub, toilet, washer and house pharmacy branches off from the hallway between the rooms.
Each room is equipped with a double bed, TV, WiFi Internet access, an infrared panel and plants. In the largest room, a sofa bed is available for up to two other persons. On arrival, you will find the beds freshly made, also available are towels, soap and shower gel.
The entire interior of the accommodation was chosen with care and is new, including kitchen and sanitation facilities, mattresses and linen. All furniture, windows, doors and stairs where consistently made to measure, and the rear ventilated larch facade ensures a healthy indoor climate during all seasons.
The solar-assisted central heating is backed up threefold. Either you fire up the water-bearing fireplace in the living room, which supplies all the radiators in the house, or an automatic control takes over the job and starts a gas heater and / or the electrical infrared panels at no additional costs for you.
The two gardens are fenced and adjacent to the surrounding hills. Here you can relax on a covered patio, roast your steak on the stonewalled barbecue or enjoy the evening at an open fire, proposing a toast to the awaking crickets. Maybe you just sit down under an apple tree, listen to the birds and let the thoughts drift by.

••• We provide more than just one cottage •••
We aren't studied tourism experts. We live in Vale and joined together in a small and family-type construction company. By this company, we have given five houses a complete overhaul or constructed them from scratch. With attention to detail all along, with respect towards the traditional style of the area, but also with a view to modern building materials and contemporary housing needs. The result is the encounter of different ages and cultures in five oasis of wellbeing, each of them with their own flair, distinctive and special in a place which – we hope – will be sidestepped by the world's hustle for a long time to come.
After eight years of work - with many possibilities for creative design - we put trowels and planing aside for a while, breathe a sigh, and are pleased to present:
••• VILLA CRINA - the icing of our resort with 200 sqm of living space and terraced garden – for 8 people.
••• CASA PELU - the former farmhouse with extended loft and roof-terrace – for 6 people.
••• CASA NICU - the 120-year-old cottage with the appropriate historic flair – for 2 (to 3) people.
••• VILLA ZOLLO - the new 150 sqm holiday home on the hill with panoramic views and large garden – for 6 (to 8) people.
••• CONDO ZOLLO II - well equipped apartment with large terrace, BBQ and garden – for 2 (to 3) people.
••• COZO FANTU - our shepherd’s hut in the mountain meadows – for 4 people.
Of the income of the vacation rentals (so your money) on one hand the 'investor' is served. On the other hand, the administration allows two families an extra income. When we cook for you, if you order local products, plan a trip in a horse cart or rent a car, other villagers have a benefit. Finally, we are planning a soup kitchen for the less well-off families in the village which also will be financed from the proceeds of the accommodations.
We foster a climate of openness and equality-based relationships.

I have been living in the village of Vale in Romania since 1998, commuting regularly to my second universe in Berlin. My Romanian friend and I set up a small construction company together 10 years ago, which is earning us a living in the surrounding villages.
During this period, 5 holiday houses were built which, from the first day of rental (2010), have been receiving visitors from all over the world. We were lucky with the investors. They wanted quality - and got it - and there was never any stress over money. So we could exercise our creativities, and everybody involved received wages well above local standards. Thus emerged a battle-tried squad of regulars; boys and girls who stand together even beyond working issues.
Today we manage the cottages mutually – i.e. the same actors which built or repaired them are now maintaining them as a team. We share receiving the guests, doing renovation jobs, gardening, or cleaning, and one of us cooks the best traditional menus this side of the Carpathians. I myself maintain our website and communicate with you.
If you want to experience Transylvania on your own, just call on me. I’ll support you with answers and advice from your first idea all the way to your arrival. If you find the journey by car too far, we’ll pick you up at the Sibiu train station or airport, and on request there’s a private rental car or bikes waiting for you..
Then we’ll hand you a key and leave you alone. Unless you want me to tell you about all the things you can do here in the mountains, in the valley or the old town of Sibiu, and where to find the closest fortified church, Dacian excavations, a lake, or the ‘Bear Cave’. Or we can sit down on the terrace with a fine wine or home-made Schnaps, and I’ll draw up a picture of the region’s history and reality for you. A region that I love because, its vital nonchalance, despite all the hardships, still sends my spirits flying …
