Hello, and welcome to Brookland, DC! There really are countless things to do in DC. Here are some recommendations focused on what is close by. I would be happy to offer recommendations about the many other attractions in the city. Just ask!

Transportation:

I advise using the DC Metro web site’s trip planner or the DC Metro app to navigate the city using public transportation. Most travel apps should guide you through the Metro system as well. You are a twelve-minute walk to the Brookland-CUA Metro stop, which serves the red line. You are also one short block from a bus stop on Monroe and 14th Street. If you have a car, I have always found street parking on 15th Street next to your driveway entrance convenient and safe. Depending on where you are going in DC, it may be easier for you to use public transportation and leave your car behind.

Food and Drink:

For breakfast, I recommend Bus Boys & Poets. It is conveniently located next to the Brookland-CUA Metro stop. You might also visit Tastemakers. Tastemakers features various food vendors for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For breakfast, I suggest Bullfrog Bagels.

I strongly recommend stopping by Union Market for lunch if you don’t mind driving or taking the bus or subway. It has several vendors to choose from. For something closer, you should try Smith’s Public Trust.

If you’re looking for dinner, there are a ton of great places in walking distance. Probably the closest, Masala Story has superb, quick, and well-priced Indian food. Two other places I’d suggest for dinner are Brookland’s Finest and Menomale.

For a drink, you could stop by Brookland Pint, which is immediately next to the Brookland-CUA Metro stop. You could also visit the tasting room of Right Proper Brewing Company Brookland Production House. Right Proper offers tours of their brewery onsite during the afternoons on weekends.

Activities:

The Metropolitan Bike Trail is an urban rail-with-trail that shares a corridor with Metro's red line, MARC commuter service, CSX freight trains, and Amtrak. Currently, the trail is a mix of on-road and off-road facilities linking many of Northeast DC’s neighborhoods. The trail is accessible at the Brookland-CUA Metro stop, where there are bike shares and bike shops in the immediate vicinity.

The Monroe Street Arts Walk is also near the Brookland-CUA Metro stop. This arts walk is fed by the Edgewood Arts Building, a 3,000-square-foot workspace for artists, and various other artist lofts and shops. Visit the Monroe Street Market web site (https://www.monroestreetmarket.com/arts/) for details. In a similar vein, Dance Place offers dance performances every weekend and other dance-related activities.

Finally, Brookland is home to the largest Catholic church in North America: The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. It is immense—the tallest habitable building in DC—and very pretty inside. In addition, the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in America is walking distance. They offer tours and recreational trails through century-old gardens.
