Welcome to Circe & Hare Lodge. One step inside & you'll realize you've arrived at the perfect place to relax & unwind. Located in Vermont's beautiful Northeast Kingdom, our rustic but refined log cabin is built on a hillside, featuring an inviting cedar deck which overlooks the Lamoille River, woods & distant mountains. Our 4-season cabin is equipped with everything you need for a peaceful, care-free getaway. Escape the hustle & bustle, clear your mind & enjoy all that this area has to offer.

Miejsce
Inside this traditional log cabin, you'll find modern conveniences with rustic charm. A tall stone fireplace is set within the middle of the living room, towering along the wooden stairs to the second floor. The living room/reading area both enjoy views of the fireplace. The house boasts an open, cozy floor plan. The kitchen/eating area opens out to the natural deck overlooking the hillside/river & distant views of mountain tops. Bathroom hosts updated washer/dryer facilities & heated tile floor & is located on the first floor.
The second floor features 3 bedrooms. Open the sliding barn doors at the top of the stairs into the romantic master bedroom, with antique factory glass windows overlooking the downstairs & fireplace. A big, luxurious bed offers views through the door onto a balcony overlooking the yard/distant mountains. There is nothing quite like a Vermont starry night sky viewed from your bedroom balcony! A large walk-in closet is found at the top of the stairs - additional linens & blankets are found here, as well as plenty of storage space for luggage & hanging clothing.
The two other cozy bedrooms are located on the other side of the hall, one featuring raw-edge wooden headboard & antique dresser for storage, and the other, with log-cabin siding, rocking chair & closet.

Dostęp dla gości
Guests have access to the entire home, porches that wrap around most of the house, and a large yard with fire pit.
The property has 5 acres, much of it wooded, but there is a mowed path which goes down to the Lamoille River. There is also a small pond on the property. Dogs seem to love the pond & swimming in the river or exploring the edges.
In winter, guests may snowshoe or ski around the property, as there are some paths through the wooded areas.
There is a horseshoe game set up in the lawn, and we have a croquet set for use in good weather. Guests may use the fire pit with permission during times of low fire-risk.
We provide bicycles in summer months for our guests to use, or you could bring your own.
Our neighbor, Little Creek Canoe & Kayak, makes beautiful handmade vessels, which you can rent & take to one of the many nearby lakes.

Inne ważne rzeczy
One thing that we must stress is how remote & rural this area of Vermont is. While this is usually what draws visitors to Vermont, preparation & proper expectations are key to a successful visit. In winter, most secondary roads have a packed layer of snow/sand on them...4-wheel drive is necessary to navigate these roads. Any of the higher class roads (class 3,4) will definitely require snow tires & 4-wheel drive.
In other seasons, these secondary roads are gravel.
**During winter, it snows here almost every day - sometimes just a flurry & sometimes a few inches or more. Circe & Hare Lodge is located in one of the only towns in Vermont where the township plows the driveway for it's residents! Plowing typically occurs in the very early morning hours, and often you won't even hear it.
Guests are expected to do some light shoveling from the porch to their vehicles. Since parking is very close to the house, this is not a great deal of shoveling. The snow shovel, as well as buckets of sand, are located either on the front porch or just inside in the coat closet.
Guests are responsible for getting vehicles out, should they get stuck in snow in the driveway or drive outside of the clearly-marked areas. If guests get stuck for some reason, you are responsible for getting your vehicles out as quickly as possible, especially in snow storms, as you cannot block the driveway for the snow plow to have access to the entire driveway.
**We highly recommend arriving with some necessities already in your vehicle in winter: extra blankets, snow boots, & snow shovel.
We provide firewood for our guests, but ask that you also plan to bring your own seasoned firewood as a backup. We ask that you limit your usage of our firewood so that there is enough for other guests throughout the winter months. Please check with Vermont’s regulations regarding bringing in wood from out-of-state & adhere to guidelines.
While power outages are rare, they can happen in storms. We have a whole-house generator which switches on instantly during an outage & turns off when power is restored.
Internet generally works well, but in rural areas like this, can be spotty. It occasionally requires unplugging & restarting if problems occur.
It is best not to expect city-like utilities or accommodations, but instead enjoy the rustic qualities of the area & use it as an opportunity to disconnect!

Our cabin is located just 2 miles from Hill Farmstead Brewery, voted Best Brewery in the World many years running - a local must-visit! Use our bicycles (or bring your own) for a lovely ride on country roads (with stunning mountain views) to the brewery.
We are surrounded by forest, river & peace & quiet!
Ten minutes away is the quaint town of Greensboro, where Willey's General Store is located - also a must-see! Greensboro is filled with artists & craftspeople, as well as a beautiful art gallery. Seasonal outdoor activities in the area are endless. We are 20 minutes from Craftsbury Outdoor Center (hundreds of miles of cross-county skiing & sculling), 15 minutes from Caspian Lake, 45 minutes from Stowe, Burke Mountain & Jay Peak & endless hiking nearby. Fall-foliage season is unbelievably gorgeous, especially when viewed from high within the mountains (Elmore State Park is one we highly recommend).

A little bit about Matt & I, and how Circe & Hare Lodge came to be~ 17 years ago I started an organic gardening business & have a background in art. I have a keen eye for creating beauty, inside & out! I’m wholeheartedly devoted to doing right by the environment, starting with our local ecology. In addition to having my hands in the dirt everyday, I consult with homeowners & am actively doing speaking engagements with groups to promote organic gardening. I am currently writing a gardening column for a newspaper to spread awareness for eco-friendly landscape practices. I love gardening, dancing, being physically active & hanging out with our dog, Ted. I installed the gardens at the cabin, but I'm just getting started there! I plant in a naturalistic style, which I call wildscaping. Matt is a musical instrument-maker whose work is highly sought after worldwide. He is also co-owner of a business that specializes in accessories for drum sets. He maintains a client list of the who’s who in music and loves his work in the music industry. He also has a deep appreciation for architecture, furniture & design - all of which he poured into our cabin! Circe and the Hare- We hung one of our favorite paintings on the wall “Empire of Mind”, painted by a friend of ours. This woman with antlers, sitting in a snowy landscape, reminds us of the mythological goddess “Circe”. Standing back she looked so magical and right for the space, as if it were hers and she was there to watch over it. We couldn’t resist naming the place after her! Now, for the Hare. I'm in love with the snowshoe hares of Vermont (and all wildlife, really). Snowshoeing in the mountains around the cabin last winter, we found endless trails of snowshoe hare tracks, but with the snow-white coats they grow for winter, they remained elusive to us. We never spotted one until one day in spring after all the snow melted a very curious snowshoe hare appeared on the back deck peering into the glass door at us! Since then he visits often - after all the times we came downstairs for our morning coffee and were greeted by him, we knew we had to dedicate the cabin to this little trickster as well. As for the cabin, Matt and I spent over a year and a half doing all of the renovations ourselves. It was a true labor of love, we set out to make it artistically and uniquely ours and never thought of it as a rental. It’s our home away from home and and hope to share it with people who appreciate the same things in life. We want our guests to be comfortable as if it’s their home away from home as well. Greensboro, Vermont is a very special place, & if you find yourself here you’ll probably notice that there is something more about it than just being scenic and beautiful. Chances are you won’t be able to put your finger on exactly what makes it so wonderful, but you'll know that everything just feels right!
