Camusaine is a light, spacious, comfortable family friendly 3 bedroom property. It has great living space, a peat burning stove and spectacular views of Loch Sunart and the surrounding hills. It is nestled just beside the sea loch, half way between the villages of Strontian and Salen. It's unique location makes it the perfect Highland getaway for exploring the Ardnamurchan area, sightseeing, hiking, wildlife watching or relaxing while admiring the stunning scenery from the deck or sunroom.

Miejsce
Camusaine has a wonderful location with fantastic views. It was built in 1998 on the site of the ruined croft house and was designed to showcase the great sea loch and hill views. It overlooks a large bay which our kids have loved to explore when the tide is out and paddle around the bay in a canoe when the tide in. We love to just relax; admire the view and appreciate a spot in the world away from everything! Camusaine is the name of the croft and the house. The croft land covers 75 acres surrounding the house. Most of the croft land is given over to natural woodland regeneration. The house is fairly remote. There is one other cottage located in the bay area. The house is ideal for those who love the outdoors and are happy to spend sometime away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Inside space:

As it was built in 1998 the house is relatively modern. It is furnished with a blend of the past and present. It has a holiday home feel about it. The house has an open plan kitchen /dining area with wooden floors leading to a comfortable living room and sunroom. The master bedroom is down and there are two further bedrooms upstairs. There are three WC's which is always handy. There is plenty of room for three couples or a family of 5 and grandparents downstairs! There is a fenced in garden for kids to play to the front of the house.

Bedrooms
There is master bedroom downstairs with a double bed and built in wardrobe with en suite bathroom with bath, over the bath shower and bidet.
Upstairs there are two roomy bedrooms with sloped ceilings each with two single beds and built in wardrobes. One of the bedrooms has a trundle bed which can be used to sleep three, though space will be limited if the trundle bed is used. (Please advise if you need to use it so we can make up the trundle bed). There is also a small third room upstairs which can accommodate a travel cot (cot supplied on request with no bedding). There is a WC with a shower upstairs. Guests upstairs can also use the WC downstairs adjacent to the bottom of the stairs.

Kitchen
We have a large fully equipped kitchen with open plan eating area/ living area and peat/wood burning stove. There is room for 6 to seat comfortably around the kitchen table. Seating more would be a cosy fit around the table and would require taking chairs from elsewhere the house. ( There are folding chairs in the porch cupboard.)The kitchen has an electric cooker, microwave and coffee maker. There is a washing machine in the back porch with plenty of space for boots and to hang jackets. Feel free to borrow the wellington boots there to explore the bay. There is a clothes dryer in the cupboard in the front porch and iron/ironing board (please note there is no tumble dryer or dishwasher).

Living areas
There is a large living room with comfy sofas with electric fire and large TV with Sky Free view. Leading from that is a fantastic sunroom with plenty of seating with great views of the loch and hills.

Outside Space:

Both the kitchen living area and sunroom have patio doors which open on to the deck and enclosed garden at the front of the house. There is outside seating on the deck ; a bench, coffee table and two chairs and also a small charcoal BBQ.There are folding chairs in the front porch cupboard.

The house has a disabled access ramp along the side of the house to both the back and front porch doors.

Dostęp dla gości
The entire house will be at your disposal including the garden . The garage will be locked but there is parking for up to three cars in the driveway.

Travel restrictions

Please ensure your booking complies with any restrictions on travel and interaction of multiple households according to the current rules. Check Scottish government website for the local rules (sorry airB&B does not allow us to post the link). We understand they can change frequently so have our bookings set to allow full refund on cancellation up to 5 days prior to the booking, but we will be unable to refund after that as it will not be possible to replace your cancelled booking so close.

Covid cleaning
We are sorry but please note that any games, toys and books which are in the house will not be cleaned by cleaner so please use at our own risk. We will leave out disinfecting wipes for your use should you decide to use them.

BOOKING

We have specified 7 day bookings only, Sunday to Sunday in high season. Shorter bookings are available for a minimum of 4 nights in low season. We are limited to checkins due to our cleaners availability. However, please message us if you are interested in a shorter or longer stay and we will see if we can accommodate you. Discounts in low season may also be on offer so please check with us thanks.

PETS

Sorry, as a general rule we are unable to accept bookings with pets.On occasion we will accept a booking with a small well trained pet provided it stays out of the bedrooms and upstairs.

WATER SUPPLY

As common in the area, the house has a private water supply. The water can have a tinge of color from the peat but it is filtered and purified with a UV system. The filter is in situated in the back porch next to the washing machine. Although it is treated and inspected annually by the Highland council , we would recommend using bottled water for drinking and using the tap water after boiling for cooking.

For summer lets we would appreciate if you could conserve water during dry spells. We will let you know before you come if you are using the house during a dry spell.

For winter lets please note that in exceptionally cold weather the private water outside supply line could freeze which means no water would be available until the line has thawed. This is very rare but has happened.

The house uses an Eco Soakaway septic system due to its remote location. This means that no grease or harsh chemicals can be put down the drains and strictly only toilet paper to be flushed down the toilets.

Wi Fi

The house does have Wi Fi but due to the remote location the bandwidth is sufficient for email and browsing only but not for streaming video.

The house has a landline for incoming calls only and to dial 999 for emergencies only thanks.

A trundle bed, high chair and a travel cot are available. If the trundle bed is required please let us know when booking so it can be made up.

Heating system is electrical storage heaters and there is a wood or peat burning stove - fuel is available at the local shop in Strontian. Instructions are provided in the house manual.

The croft is in the Ardnamurchan area, which is the most Westerly point on the British mainland. It is a spectacular area that is full of ancient oakwood, wildlife, white beaches and spectacular scenery. The croft itself is located on a Site of Special Scientific Interest - the Sunart ancient Oakwoods renowned for wildlife such as otters and pine martin. The area was further confirmed as a Special Area of Conservation under the EU habitats directive in 2001.

The house is situated just off the single track road A861 which runs along the North banks of Loch Sunart near the start of the Ardnamurchan peninsula. It is located just about 4 miles along the road from Strontian and 4 miles from Salen. Strontian is the biggest village in the area and is near the head of Loch Sunart. It is a fairly remote location but Strontian has two food shops and a petrol pump. There are also hotels and restaurants in Strontian and Salen and their vicinity. We normally stock up with grocery supplies at the Tesco supermarket at Fort William before we visit.

There are many wonderful half day and day trips you can make from the house exploring the area. You could catch a ferry to the Isle of Mull, drive to Fort William to see the sights, spend some time at the singing sands beach near Kentra or take a walk at the Ariundle Center just outside Strontian which is a National Nature Reserve.

For hill walkers Beinn Resipol, which is a Corbett, is just a couple of miles along the road. There are several other Corbetts and other interesting hills nearby and plenty of Munros across the ferry including Ben Nevis not too far away. For wild life watching you can walk along the road from the house to the Garbh Eilean Wildlife Hide to watch the seals which bask on a small island in the loch. If you love Scottish castles, a visit to Castle Tioram is a must.

Harry Potter fans will want to take a steam train trip on the West Highland line to Mallaig (booking recommended).
