We stayed for about a week here. The apartment itself was efficient, with stovetop / fridge / microwave etc. The wi-fi was mostly reliable except for a few instances of the electricity going out (one outage lasting over 12 hours -- this was because we ran the A/C too long, but were not warned that would happen.) Although the hosts Mirielle and Claude (Samuel's parents) were kind and helpful, there was a lot of miscommunication and/or very delayed communication. The host Samuel was out of town and was unreachable on the Airbnb messaging platform. The biggest issue was the mosquitoes: we each had at least 75-100 bites. My partner had over 60 bites on just his two arms alone. They need to add a mosquito net over the bed, perhaps, because there are no screens on the window. This property is beautifully located on a hillside with a pool and lovely yard. The outdoor area is the highlight and the pool is great to have in such hot weather.

We spent three nights here and had a delightful stay. The arrangements were easy, thanks to Sam's English and the ability to pay via (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) (saving the inconvenience and expense of wire transfers). We arrived about 9 pm, and finding the place by ourselves would have been tricky in the dark, but our hosts were kind enough to meet us at the church in Ste. Marie and then lead us to the house. And then, because we were hungry, they graciously escorted us back to the only dining options open at that hour--the food stands in the park. (They may look a little sketchy, but don't be afraid to try them--we ended up eating there twice and had good meals and friendly service both times.) Throughout our stay, our hosts remained accessible and helpful (it does help if you can speak some French). They offered great advice about how to spend our time, immediately fixed a clogged sink, and treated us to deliciously sweet bananas from one of their trees. The view from the property is beautiful, and the setting is very peaceful and quiet--except for the rooster who woke us daily (not just at sunrise but also at 2:45 am one day and around 4:00 am another). Otherwise, noise was not an issue--we heard nothing from above us (where the hosts live), nor from the renters in the adjacent studio (except for their door closing). The apartment itself is simple and could benefit from some upgrading, but we found it clean and comfortable. And you don't come to Martinique to stay inside! Sam's place made a good base for exploring the north. Our favorite excursions were to the Gorges de la Falaise (exhilarating hike into a slot canyon with a waterfall at the end) and the Caravelle Peninsula (we recommend driving all the way to the ruins of the chateau and then doing the 3-hour hike to the lighthouse and around the tip of the peninsula). Just a few more things to mention about the apartment: * The a/c unit in the bedroom was quiet and efficient, and the fan in the living room kept that area very comfortable. * The Wi-Fi, unfortunately, was spotty--probably because there was rain and wind when we first arrived. * The bathroom is separated from the bedroom only by louvered half-doors (as you can see in the pictures), so don't expect full privacy. * The driveway is steep and rough, but at least it's short! * The pool looked lovely, but we were so busy every day, we never got a chance to use it.

This place is extremely scenic! Basic accomdation but good for a night or two in the town of Saint Marie. You definitely want to have a car if you're staying here--it's secluded and the roads don't have sidewalks, so walking is taking your life in your hands! Lots of charming farm animals around, roosters serve as the alarm clock here. Overall a great stay.

We are friendly hosts, respectful of your independ…
