>> CLEANING PROTOCOL: Every owner of a property listed with Bolthole Retreats has undertaken to implement a series of additional cleaning measures in order to minimise the risk of infection between stays. Housekeepers have been instructed to follow a 30-point guide which involves cleaning first to remove germs and other impurities, and then disinfecting to kills germs with chemicals while wearing disposable gloves and facemasks. All laundry will be washed using a bleach or other disinfectant-based laundry detergent containing active oxygen bleach at a temperature of at least 60 degrees. At least one pot of hand sanitiser, and for the larger properties 2 or 3 pots, will be provided. Implementing these measures will necessarily result in an increase in the time taken to undertake a clean. Therefore, we ask that guests respect the advertised check-in and check-out times, and we will regrettably be unable to agree to any exceptions.

THE SPACE>> The Living Space
Greeted by a beautiful mosaic Kingfisher on the doorway handmade by owner Di, a warm, welcoming tone is set from the moment you enter the front door. Opening up into a light, bright hallway, the cottage’s main living areas can be found at the cottage’s rear, offering plenty of space for groups of all ages to unwind in. The heart of the home is the cosy living room, decorated in an attractive palette of country-cream plus pops of purple, boasting sink-in sofas, a statement stone fireplace and wall-mounted TV, plus sleek stone flooring complete with underfloor heating. Leading through the living room is a large conservatory with fantastic countryside views, well-equipped for entertaining evenings in thanks to its 10-seater dining table, additional sofa and pool table. Pretty French doors lead directly from the conservatory into the garden, blending indoor/outdoor living perfectly when the weather calls for it.

Also sitting at the rear of the cottage is the country-style kitchen, well kitted-out for group catering. In addition to the conservatory’s 10-seater dining table, the kitchen homes a smaller 4-seater diner and breakfast bar for 3; great for casual breakfasts, quick snacks or for groups who like their own space at meal times. A large range cooker rounds off the stylish country feel to the kitchen, plus there’s a large integrated fridge, dishwasher and microwave at your disposal. A larger freezer can be found in the cottage’s separate utility room, accessed through the kitchen, where you’ll also find a handy washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing board.

Bedrooms
5 well-equipped bedrooms are found throughout the property, sleeping up to 10 adults with ease (please bring your own linen if you are using a cot):

Bedroom 1
Found just off the entrance hall on the cottage’s ground floor, Bedroom 1 homes twin single beds making it a great for choice for kids or adults who don’t mind sharing. Unique patchwork headboards and pretty floral prints bring the room to life and, thanks to its wide doorway and accessible wet room and lavatory just down the hall, it’s perfect for wheelchair users, older guests or those with mobility issues. The room has A Craftmatic rise and fall single bed with electric controls and a basic push wheelchair is available. (Please request in advance.)

Bedroom 2
Upstairs, alongside three further bedrooms, is the master of the house: a spacious double room with bright skylight windows, attractive oak flooring and bright pops of purple. There’s a handy en-suite complete with bath and full-height shower, plus your own TV, wardrobe and chest of drawers. Young families can also make use of the two travel cots available to them here, with plenty of space for both.

Bedroom 3
Just shy of a double, Bedroom 3 homes a comfortable 4ft bed, making it ideal for couples who don’t mind getting a little cosy. Boasting the same attractive wooden flooring and calm, neutral colour palette as the rest of the house, the bedroom feels spacious thanks to light, bright dual aspect windows and even benefits from its own en-suite shower room and wall-mounted TV.

Bedroom 4
With views to the rear of the property, Bedroom 4 offers a sink-in double bed, chic wooden dressing table and en-suite shower room, emitting the same ‘home away from home’ feel that’s evident throughout the property. Attractive wooden floors and soft, white bed linen give the room a modern yet cosy vibe, brought to life with clever hints of colour in the unique artwork and patchwork blanket box found at the bottom of the bed.

Bedroom 5
With twin single beds and beautiful countryside views to the rear of the property, Bedroom 5 offers a restful space for friends or couples who like their own bed-space. Interiors are bright and calming thanks to the powder blue hues of the furnishings and artwork, and, like the other bedrooms, it benefits from its own en-suite shower room, complete with panoramic views of the fields that frame the cottage’s rear.

What’s Outside
Somewhat of a green-fingered paradise, Kingfisher Cottage’s private, enclosed garden is a dream for lovers of the great outdoors; a verdant, hedge-framed oasis filled with vibrant country flowers, lovingly nurtured by owners Dave and Di. A large patio area, accessible via the cottage’s conservatory and kitchen, offers a great spot for al fresco dining thanks to its outdoor dining set and charcoal BBQ, whilst the well-sized lawn area is great for kids wanting some space to run around in. Running alongside the garden is Winchcombe’s River Isbourne, a gentle stream perfect for paddlers accessible via a public footpath to the rear, providing a soothing soundtrack of running water to al fresco summer dinners. What’s more, rolling fields as far as the eye can see offer a beautiful backdrop to the garden, making you feel well and truly in the heart of the country wherever you turn.

House Rules

Noise: Kingfisher Cottage is situated in the middle of a residential area, in consideration of our neighbours we respectfully request that noise levels are kept to a minimum after 10pm, especially outside on warmer evenings.

Fireworks: We appreciate that fireworks might be fun to have for a celebration, but they present too high a risk in a built-up area with some very old houses neighbouring our property. Therefore, please do not use fireworks in any area, inside or outside, while at Kingfisher Cottage. We hope you understand our concern.

Things to Do
The historic market town of Winchcombe is quite literally on your doorstep here, providing a host of amenities, must-sees and activities to suit guests of all ages, shapes and sizes:
Eating
With Winchcombe on your doorstep and the Cotswolds’ many market towns and villages just a short car ride away, you’re somewhat spoiled for choice when it comes to places to head to feed your appetite. For gourmet-hunters, Winchcombe’s 5 North Street is just a 5-minute stroll from the cottage, offering Michelin-starred seasonal dishes created by expert husband and wife team Gus and Kate. Michelin-recommended Wesley House is also just a 5-minute walk in Winchcombe’s town centre, offering exceptional cooking in the confines of a characterful 15th century house. For fans of more relaxed cuisine, The White Hart Inn on Winchcombe’s High Street offers tasty gastropub grub in relaxed, rustic-chic surroundings, as well as The Corner Cupboard Inn; a historic 15th Century Inn serving traditional fare, supposedly haunted by a 12-year-old girl! Just 10 minutes’ down the road by car, The Pheasant Inn at Toddington is a great choice for families or groups visiting the GWSR Steam Railway station next door, whilst The Royal Oak at Gretton offers an unbeatable pub garden; perfect for sunny afternoons when only a pub pint will do.
Walking
Winchcombe’s rolling countryside is a true walkers’ paradise, with options for casual, seasoned and hardy walkers running right from the cottage’s front door. Winchcombe itself is a “walkers are welcome” town, a special status awarded to towns and villages which go above and beyond with their walking amenities, making it a fantastic destination for groups in search of a walking break. The Winchcombe Way, a 42-mile figure-of-eight trail centred around the town, offers walkers a great way of discovering the surrounding Cotswold towns and villages section-by-section over the course of a stay, whilst there are plenty of options for those looking for a more casual, leisurely pace within a close radius of the cottage. We recommend the Sudeley Castle Circular walk for a relaxing stroll; a 2-mile loop setting off straight from Kingfisher Cottage’s front door, taking you along the river, straight through the heart of the town and into the grounds of historic Sudeley Castle - a must-visit for any guest. The 2 ½ mile walk to Belas Knap, a Neolithic chambered long barrow sat atop Cleeve Hill, is also a great walk to try from the doorstep, providing you don’t mind the incline.
Must-Sees
Sudeley Castle, historic home and resting place of Henry VIII’s last wife Katherine Parr, is situated just a short mile-long stroll through fields from Kingfisher Cottage and is an absolute must-visit for guests. Offering plenty to keep all ages entertained, the beautiful grounds will satisfy garden-lovers and history buffs alike, whilst the adventure playground and acres of manicured lawns offer the perfect place for younger guests to stretch their legs. Cheltenham Racecourse, home of the world-famous Cheltenham Festival, is just a 15-minute drive and the perfect day out destination for racing fans, whilst Toddington’s GWSR Steam Railway (7-minute drive) offers a fantastic day on the rails for vintage locomotive enthusiasts. Further afield, history buffs have Blenheim Palace (1-hour drive) and Warwick Castle (1-hour drive) to explore, whilst Shakespeare’s birthplace, the medieval market town of Stratford-upon-Avon, is just 40 minutes by car. Families will love Cotswold Farm Park (15-minute drive) and the pretty Cotswold village of Broadway, just 7 miles away, with its independent boutiques, art galleries, cafés and fantastic adventure park.
