I'm so sorry to hear your stay was less satisfactory than you were expecting. The linens were freshly laundered but I will take a look at them to see if they need additional attention.
Living in the tropics, there are bugs everywhere, and while we do our best to have the room clean (there were no bugs when I cleaned the room prior to your arrival), it is inevitable that they're around.
I really enjoyed chatting with you both and would encourage you to mention any discomfort you have with future hosts immediately as I'm sure they will remediate any issues right away, as I also would have done if I had known you were uncomfortable.
Our home is used by our entire family and the value of the room (the cheapest in the area) is designed for people who are not expecting a hotel level of accommodation. We keep our rates and fees low because we don't hire a housekeeper, otherwise our cleaning rates would be similar to other Airbnb homes, at $100 per stay or more. I'm sorry you were dissatisfied, but our rates are very reasonable for a private room; a private bathroom; a refrigerator; beach toys to borrow; fresh, clean linens, as well as access to the rest of our home - in Hawaii.
Everyone in our home, including our kids, are considered hosts. I apologize if your interactions upon check-in were not to your expectations - I heard her welcome you and didn't think my personal attention was also necessary. I'll keep that feedback in mind for future interactions. Thank you, and best of luck with your other travels and Airbnb experiences.
