Our quaint cozy flat in one of Lisbon's trendiest areas, hip Bairro Alto. Oozing European charm in Lisbon's historical city center, this ceramic-tile-covered stone building is near the must-see bits of Western Europe's top destinations.

It's in Bairro Alto's legendary bar & restaurant district - but on a bar-free street - an oasis of calm in the winding cobblestone streets. Three blocks to Tram 28, a less than 10 min. walk to Príncipe Real, Baixa-Chiado metro, Cais do Sodré and lots more.

Miejsce
Our apartment is in a building nearly two centuries old. It captures the essence of Lisbon and its ancient history, sitting in the center of a typical historical neighborhood. It occupies the entire 3rd floor of its building (4th floor by American standards) with a full-length narrow balcony. This affords a view of the winding street below and a glimpse of the Tejo River flowing into the Atlantic in the distance (about a thousand meters down the hill).

The space is an old-world style open layout with two bedrooms adjacent and another bedroom opening onto the balcony. Hardwood floors cover all areas except kitchen and bathroom. There are a decent number of electric sockets available throughout considering the age of the building.

The living area has a small dining table that seats four; sofa and living room chairs accommodate five. This is also where the cable TV and the Wifi router is (with signal throughout the flat). Two doors open onto a classic-style long narrow balcony from where one can see part of the old city sloping down to the river/sea. With the balcony doors open, a pleasant breeze usually prevails if the kitchen and back bedroom windows are open to create a cross-draft.

The bathroom includes a bathtub as well as a shower. There are electric sockets available there, too.

The old-style modest kitchen has most small appliances including microwave, hand blender, blender, electric kettle, coffee maker, and toaster. Larger appliances include a stove, fridge (top freezer), and clothes washing machine. Plates, cups, silverware, and of course basic food preparation accessories are provided. A small fold-out table and stools afford 1-2 people a spot for a quick bite if desired. A small folding clothesline dries your clothes or you can use the clothes dryer (electric).

Dostęp dla gości
You will have exclusive access to the whole apartment. It occupies the entire 3rd floor (4th floor for Americans) of the building. Built a hundred years before elevators/lifts, it has only stairs.

IMPORTANT: To arrivals after 22:00H a 25€ "Late Check-in" fee is applied. This should be paid directly to the person checking you in.

Inne ważne rzeczy
Lisbon's moderate climate is one of its premier attributes. Although it can get warm during summer afternoons, ocean breezes cool the city at night. With the mild weather and cool summer evening breezes, residences typically don't have air conditioning; instead we have fans in each room.

Lisbon is warmer than most of Europe - with palm trees! - but is definitely not tropical and does get very chilly, especially January - February. It does not reach freezing, even in the coldest times, but the classic architecture and design of buildings in the old city center, including this apartment, don't have the best insulation. We have three space heaters to help keep off the cold, but do bring an extra sweater or two.

We strive to be environmentally conscious. To that end over 80% of the apartment's electricity comes from green, renewable resources; primarily wind but also hydroelectric and other renewable resources.

The apartment has an open floor plan, with stout wooden antique doors keeping each bedroom private.

Lisboa, Portugalia

Legend holds that Lisbon was founded 4,000 years ago by Ulysses (thus named Ulyssippo by the Romans). It is the oldest Western European capital and the only one on the Atlantic Ocean. It has one of the mildest climates in Europe with its warmest winters, boasting average daytime temperatures of 15 Celsius. Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, with a contemporary culture that is alive and thriving. Lisbon enchants travelers with its white-bleached limestone building, intimate alleyways, and an easy-going charm that makes it a popular year-round destination.

Bairro Alto is in one of historic districts of Lisbon and is one of its most visited and energetic. Although it is famed for its vibrant night life that includes myriad restaurants, bars, and clubs, our apartment sits on a residential street across from an old church and recuperation facility that provide space and is quieter than most of Bairro Alto. The restaurants are never too far away, though, and there is a small mom-and-pop grocery stand a step away on the corner where you can find basic necessities and food items - including Portuguese wine.

Many of Lisbon's must-see sites aren't far away. The iconic Tram 28 stops two blocks down at the bottom of the street and gets you to most of the rest of the must-see locations. Bairro Alto is itself a destination; our apartment is also walking distance from Príncipe Real. It's steps away from several top sites. That includes the breathtaking lookout site of Miradouro de Sao Pedro that captures a view of the whole city, the church often billed as "the world's most expensive church," Sao Roque, and the ruins of the Convento de Carmo.

Close by the convent is the Baixo Chiado Metro beyond which one descends to the many plazas below, including Restauradores and eventually the grand Plaza Commercial on the river. It's not a long walk down the hill to the river, to the neighborhood of Cais do Soldre with even more bars, restaurants, and clubs.
