A Farm stay nestled amongst thick forests and rolling undisturbed countryside with amazing views of the deep valleys that form the heart and soul of the Nilgiris district. Ideal for couples and small families who love the outdoors and seek solitude.

This farmstay bungalow is located in a very serene location totally devoid of traffic and people sounds. Yet the bungalow is close enough to a major township.

If you want some relief from your day to day hectic life ,crowd and pollution then this is the place I would suggest for perfection weekend getaway. Vanh kutir is situated some 30-40 kms from Ooty in mountains full of tea plantations. Even the drive from Ooty till vanh kutir was so beautiful. We were hosted well by Ravi(owner). He is very cooperative and helpful. Food was very delicious both veg and non veg. There is no restriction for anything like loud music, drinks etc. Plus you can enjoy the scenic beauty. If you are planning then I would suggest atleast spend 2 days at vanh kutir. We would definitely like to visit this place soon.

One memorable unique adventure we will come back to There are so many aspects of the stay my family and I enjoyed and wanted to share with others that we took a little time to write this review. Do read this fully and carefully; be prepared for the stay and enjoy the pristine nature around, unfettered. The Drive: The property is located about 8 km from Kotagiri town in the woods of Aracode (see the “green” contrast in (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) map: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)). All of the way has a very good pavement, except for the last km or so where the roads are a bit rough. It was not a problem since we were driving a bigger car (Jazz). As mentioned by Ravi, it is important to keep your own car to reach the place, just so you can drive to Kotagiri in case of any medical emergencies or forgotten essentials. The last 100 m drive down inside the 5 acre property has narrow hairpin bends, which Ravi very diligently took us through. Being a novice in such drives, Ravi (and Balu the cook-cum-handyman) also taught me how to climb up back. I needed a little training to do it (knowing how to use the hand-break to drive up a slope was helpful). The Stay: If you did not notice, check out the satellite map of the area. There are no neighbours for about 200m radius. And the area is heavily wooded that you can’t even see any of these (two neighbouring properties) when you are there. The only friendly “neighbours” (who live in the out-house) are Bhadran and Lakshmi, the Irla tribe couple who work in the tea garden surrounding the house. They only speak Tamil (and their own Irla tongue). They are very warm and helpful. The first night stay was a little eerie (with winds and a light shower), since this was our first experience of a “lonely” stay away from the buzzing noisy city life. But we soon got used to it and enjoyed the quiet and pitch dark stay. (Two phrases were literally illustrated for the first time: “pitch dark” and “pin-drop silence”). The cottage is very comfortable with all essential modern amenities. There are three bedrooms; and it may be better to have friends or relatives to enjoy the stay even further. The Estate: Bhadran and Lakshmi pick tea leaves everyday, and were happy to show us which leaves to pick! The estate also has a view point to a deep valley (something in Nilgiris that is usually crowded by at least a 100 people at a time!). There are several places one could go for a hike, including an Irla village. Take advice from Ravi and the locals and be prepared (with accessories, torch, first aid etc). But we chose to just enjoy the lonely idle time, with refreshing tea (from the garden) in the Gazebo, singing and just lying around. The Host: Ravi is a more than a host. He is like your...

Dear Sunthar , your review is really very heart warming:) I am so happy that you and your family had a nice time and we could help make it memorable. Just a quick question though.... the review seems incomplete OR is not opening completely. Can you kindly check at your end please? Warm regards, ravi

O: Ravi

This property is co-hosted by two people :)

1) Col( Retd) Dr. Ravishanker, a plastic surgeon by profession who after having served the Army in several critical border areas now works at a charitable hospital in Loni near Pune. His desire is to settle down in this very farmhouse of his in the not-so-distant future and then do social medicine for the poor and needy from the neighbouring tribal settlements.

2) Ravi Kumar, an Electrical engineer from IIT Delhi, who after a long 14 year stint with the FMCG major Britannia, took "early" retirement at the age of 35 years to settle down to being a full time farmer in the Nilgiris. This farmhouse was built by him as a labour of love for his dear friend Dr.Ravishanker.

We are both passionate about nature, wildlife, simple living amidst basic but clean surroundings. We are both hands on people and love to associate with like-minded people who would love to experience life on its own terms with the minimum of outside interference. This in our opinion is the best way to savour what this unique area has to offer.... Good wildlife, excellent birding, long uninterrupted walks, total peace and quiet and everything in harmony with Mother Nature.

We look forward to hosting you.
