VILLAGE HISTORY WALKING TOUR
Because Franschhoek was first established in the 17th century, it is brimming with history and heritage, which seeps through the streets, monuments and old-world architecture. The guided historical walk reveals the ins and outs of the first residents, the wildlife that once occupied the valley, the beginning of the wine industry, and how Franschhoek faired during the Apartheid regime. This is an easy walk that offers a number of route options, and is fascinating and entertaining all at once.

FRANSCHHOEK TOWNSHIP TOUR
South Africa has a vibrant culture that is made up of different colours, languages and creeds. Many of the local folk live in townships, or informal settlements, which buzz with music, dancing, neighbours laughing on their doorsteps, and children playing on the gravel roads. A walking township tour invites people from all over the world to sample some of the local food and traditional beer, meet the people that live here, enjoy a song and dance performance, and experience a totally different side of life. Those choosing this tour should bring some cash for refreshments (at the tavern or tea garden) and tips for the locals whose home you visit.

FRANSCHHOEK ART ROUTE
Art enthusiasts will love exploring the variety of galleries that line the streets of Franschhoek or are secluded in a secret hub of all things creative. This guided tour takes art-lovers to see the wonderful variety of work being produced locally across 20 different galleries. Visitors that want to add something special to this adventure can opt to include a visit to the artists in the township of Groendal too, but will be required to use their own vehicle.

All walking tours require comfortable shoes and clothing, sunscreen and some water to sip on along the way.

Franschhoek has, rightfully, been dubbed the culinary heart of South Africa. Visitors to this gorgeous little Western Cape town are spoilt for choice when it comes to the variety of things to taste. But, the absolutely beautiful setting in which the winelands, bistros, chocolatiers and bakeries are nestled is ideal for more than just wining and dining. Franschhoek Adventures invites visitors to the Cape Winelands to immerse themselves in the beauty from the saddle of a mountain bike.

Cycling adventures are extra special in this part of the world, thanks to the many different terrain types and the gorgeous vistas that each one affords. Choose from the:

WINE TOURS
Combine your love of world-class wines with an outdoorsy excursion in the bicycle saddle on a guided Mountain Bike Wine Tour. There are flat routes available, as well as some that are a little more challenging, depending on your preferences. This tour includes three wine estates of your choice. Pairings of wine and food are the ideal way to get the most out of both. These guided tours include wine and pizza, wine and caramel, wine and chocolate, and brandy and truffle pairings. Your eats can be kept light so that you can cycle back comfortably, feeling replenished and energised.

VILLAGE TOURS
Traverse the tar roads of this charming town that exudes the feeling of a quaint French village. This circular route is 15 kilometres long and showcases the main road, wine farms, fruit farms, Berg River Conservation Area and the fynbos of Franschhoek. Smell the wild flowers and spot the raptors before heading back into town through an exquisite vineyard. Visitors with a little extra time can include a stop at the local roastery for a cup of coffee and a pastry.

OUT-RIDES
For mountain bikers that are fit and more experienced, out-rides in the surrounding mountain ranges are a super way to experience the very best of the Western Cape and Winelands. There are a number of challenging single-track trails through the fynbos, with stunning views of the river below and the craggy mountains all around. The guided out-ride takes two to three hours and include tricky areas of loose sand and rock, narrow paths, and some steep hills.

Cycling through and around Franschhoek promises an incredible perspective of this destination. Cyclists should dress in closed, comfortable shoes and wear plenty of high-factor sunscreen.
