Co będziecie robić

Join this 2-hour rattan weaving workshop, and handcraft a pair of rattan coasters.

Even if you are a complete beginner at rattan weaving, no need to worry.
I will guide you through every step of the process.
Spend a fun and immersive couple of hours, and bring home nice new additions to your (Japanese) tea table.

Rattan craft in Japan has a log history.
It was first brought to Japan over 1000 years ago!
At that time, rattan was mainly used in architecture, as well as weapons such as bows and the shaft of the Aaginata.
It was as recently as the early Meiji Era(around the early 20th century) that the techniques for creating rattan furniture were introduced into Japan.
Demand for rattan furniture increased as civilization advanced, and the popularity of rattan drawers and shelves after the war further boosted its production in Japan.

1. Arrive my rattan shop, about a 30 minute train ride from central Tokyo.

2. Learn about the process and prepare materials.

3. Set about crafting your first coaster with step-by-step advice. Don’t worry about slight unevenness as it adds a unique personality to your coasters.

4. After the crafting session finishes, deepen your understanding of rattan craft by browsing through the store and looking at expertly-crafted pieces, or engaging in a casual chat with me.
