Co będziecie robić

We will meet in Groud Zero, where the vestiges of the first street of Cancun are, in the back of the city hall. Here you will hear the brief history of the founding of Cancun that celebrates its 50th anniversary on April 20, 2020.
Then we will walk to see the first 15 houses, most of them now restaurants and shops. You will hear stories of how we used to live in those early years in the middle of the jungle and the sea. We will walk along Avenida Carlos J. Nader and many other fun stories will come as we walk through the oldest streets of Cancun. With luck, we can talk to the first people in the city as we walk to the City Hall and the first hotel in Cancun, built for workers.
Then we will have a unique gastronomic experience at the local "la flea" market, a place with three choices of tacos for breakfast. You choose to eat or just drink a soda. Here, there are quesadillas in one place, carnitas tacos in another, or tacos in stews if you want more options. Meet the local people and enjoy authentic Mexican food.
We ended this experience outside the office of Fonatur, the federal trust office in charge of the construction of Cancun since 1970 and now in charge of the maintenance of the hotel zone. More exciting stories will come to nurture your knowledge of Cancun, one of the most successful cities in the world.

I live in Cancun since 1977, when my father came to work for Fonatur, Mexico's federal office in charge of the construction of Cancun. We lived in one of the first 15 houses built on the first avenue of Cancun that bears the name of one of the first founders of the city Carlos J. Nader. Now I am 47 years old and I am very excited to share stories of my unique childhood. My family and I still live here and we have witnessed the success of Cancún and of course, we are part of it. Being of the first families, we had to create our own community and be the first to do many things to help build Cancun. I am currently a sales professional so I regularly talk to many people from all over the world. I'm also a traveler and host of Airbnb.

For those wanting to connect with Cancun a bit deeper, I recommend this trip. Why not know a bit more about city planning, and the changes this city has gone over time?! Amazing experience especially for solo travellers like myself

Beto's History Walk was wonderful! We left with knowledge of the history of Cancún and a sense of a greater understanding of it all. We heard personal anecdotes, and got to try the best carnitas tacos we've ever had (for 20 MXN pesos each). We asked Beto questions and he had answers to them all. Would definitely recommend

I really enjoyed Beto's perspective and story telling. The tour itself (in terms of how far you walk) is relatively short, but we took our time with Beto pointing out areas and items of interest. I also really appreciated the extensive PDF document he emailed to us beforehand, supplementing the information he gave us on the tour. We actually met one of his father's old colleagues from the founding/development of Cancun and that added a great dimension to the tour. We chatted back and forth easily, asking questions and getting interesting anecdotes as we walked which also made it nice. It's a great way to get out of the hotel zone and explore the actual heart of Cancun. I would suggest not going on a Sunday if you can avoid it (on Sundays the taco and quesadilla places Beto would usually bring you to are closed. A couple of us from my group just went into the nearby square where there was a festival and enjoyed street food instead). I think it was a great value and very interesting.

Beto has first-hand inside knowledge about the history and early days of Cancun which he generously shares on this unique tour. You'll see and learn all about Cancun's development from an untamed jungle to today's tourist hot spot, and enjoy some delicious local food and drink before you're done (bring some cash for your food, if desired). By the time you finish the tour you'll know things even locals don't know about this city and how it came to be! Highly recommended!
