Co będziecie robić

When you join us for a farm tour, you will experience all aspects of this working farm and feel immersed in what we do and why we do it.

You will meet and learn about our sheep, goats, chickens, and horses. They are very friendly and love interacting with visitors. Depending on the time of year, you will also get to try your hand at the age old practice of milking a goat.

We will take you into our vegetable garden. There we will talk about how to grow vegetables and the unique challenges and rewards of being an organic farmer. Depending on the season, you will be able to try your hand at planting or harvesting fresh vegetables or berries.

We will show you our renewable energy systems and talk about the benefits of generating your own electricity.

Throughout the tour, there will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.

Hello! We're Dick and Sonja. For more than 40 years, we've been organic farmers here at Apple Pond Farm and Renewable Energy Education Center. We've done many things over the years: bred drafted carriage horses, sheep, and goats; grown vegetables; made hay; and trained many young people through our farm apprentice programs. We've also set up a renewable energy system on the farm that allows us to produce 90% of the electricity we use here.

Gdzie będziecie

The land of Apple Pond Farm was first farmed in 1865. In 1973, we purchased 80 acres and began restoring the land and the buildings to good health. On a tour, you'll be able to explore the beauty and history of this farm, as well as the renewable energy systems we've put into place.

My farm tour at Apple Pond Farm was nothing short of wonderful. Sonja is a true steward of the land- the animals she expertly cares for, the growing and processing of healthy food, and a reverence, knowledge and expert management of natural resources as the farm is run almost entirely on sustainable energy. Sonja was able to easily and deeply connect with everyone in my group from the youngest- an energetic 4 year old, to the older members of the group, experienced gardeners and growers and complete novices and farm newbies alike. Her passion and enthusiasm were contagious, and every member of the group was engaged with her teachings and the activities she had prepared for us around the farm from milking a goat and learning about cheese production, to examining the bounty in the hoop house, to seeing and learning about the farm’s wind turbine. Besides providing us all with a wonderful experience while at the farm, Sonja imparted to us ways we can take the energy of the farm with us back to our communities, and make small changes to support local food movements, recycling initiatives and ethical small businesses doing good work. I left the farm feeling inspired, informed and very happy to have cuddled with some lovely little lambs we met in the barn! I cannot more highly recommend this tour and plan to come back in the future and book a longer stay in the farms’s guesthouse.

Great trip to Apple Pond Farm! We learned so much about farming and animals during our tour. Sonja and Celine are fun and knowledgeable. Our 5 year old son was engaged every step of the way (and so were we). Lots of hands on activities and the animals stole our hearts! We plan to come back to see Oliver, Conrad, and Opal (baby goats) when they're all grown up. The day we went was hot, so I'd recommend bringing a hat, especially for kids. Also, since we were walking around on the farm, we were happy that our son was in sneakers and not sandals. We highly recommend this experience for adults and children. Thank you, Sonja and Celine. See you again.
