Co będziecie robić
Just south of Stonington lies a stretch of ocean packed with idyllic spruce-topped granite islands, perfect for beginner sea kayakers, as well as those wishing to get away from it all – at least for a few hours. The goal of this trip is to do a little sea kayaking and spend most of the day enjoying the tranquil beauty of a Maine island.
We’ll meet and choose a route based on the weather and desires of the group; the Stonington archipelago offers many choices. After a safety briefing and some quick paddling tips, we’ll spend the morning paddling to our destination, perhaps stopping on some smaller islands along the way. Then then you’ll have two to three hours on an island to enjoy it however you like. Explore on foot with your camera, relax in a hammock, write poetry or create art, pick berries, gaze into tidepools or take a swim. Hammocks are provided, and we’ll help hang them. We’ll paddle back to the launch at the end of the day.
To be clear, this area is NOT in Acadia National Park. There are far fewer people in the Stonington area, especially once we get onto the water.
Other things to note
In case of steady rain or strong wind we may cancel – contact me. On marginal days we’ll bring a rain fly and a stove to make warm drinks, and could spend more time paddling - rainy days can be fun!

We've been guiding and teaching sea kayaking since 2010, mostly from Stonington. We're both registered Maine Sea Kayak Guides & ACA-Certified Instructors trained in Wilderness First Aid. Rebecca is an artist, specializing in painting and printmaking, drawing great inspiration from the places she paddles. Michael is the author of 'AMC's Best Sea Kayaking in New England,' as well as numerous paddling articles. We enjoy helping visitors learn new skills while discovering the hidden nuances of the Stonington archipelago.
Gdzie będziecie
We’ll choose from one of 7 larger islands within an hour of our launch based on the weather and conditions, what the group would most like to experience and how far we would like to paddle. Some islands are known for beaches or glacial erratic boulders, while others have better trails or favorite hidden nooks that few other people ever visit.
While Stonington is only 20-30 direct miles from Bar Harbor, it takes about 1.5-hours to drive there.

I had a spectacular day!!! I truly enjoyed every minute of our trip. Michael was an amazing guide, he was clearly extremely knowledgeable and experienced. He was also a great person to chat with about kayaking, the outdoors, acadia, or life in general, or to just be quiet with and enjoy the beauty around us. He was also so accomodating! I was the only one on the trip, and he consulted with me about everything from the route to which boat I'll should paddle based on my experience level. This trip did not feel like a guided tour; rather it felt like a fun, relaxing day trip with a friend who happened to have a vast amount of experience white water kayaking.

This was a trip of a lifetime; what an amazing opportunity to see the Maine coastline from a kayak. We visited so many islands that I have lost track. Michael was very informative about kayaking and the Maine coast. Michael provided instructions for kayaking so this trip if for both the beginner and advanced kayaker.
