Co będziecie robić
On arrival, we'll create our own handmade paper from the raw ingredients, which will be turned into four postcards. Designing the paper with pressed flowers and leaves is the most fun process. While drying the paper, we'll watch a short movie about how Japanese paper is made, enjoy chatting over drinks. When the paper is dried, I'll show you how to use a traditional brush pen to write messages on the cards in Japanese. At the end, I 'll be able to guide you on how to mail your unique cards to your friends or family.
Other things to note
Please be sure to bring the mailing addresses of the people you want to send your postcards to.

Hello, I am Miwako. Having previously worked for various international careers, and living in bustling cities, I have now returned to my family business which spans three generations across an 87-year history. The heart of my business is traditional Japanese washi paper, which is deeply rooted in Japanese culture, tradition, and customs. It is now so much fun to spend time making papers with visitors from all over the world! Let's explore a bit in Japanese traditional handcraft!
Gdzie będziecie
We will meet at my paper shop in the heart of Kyoto. It's a traditional Japanese wooden house, where you will be able to feel at home on tatami mats. There're paper products collected from various parts of Japan, as well as raw ingredients for Washi paper and other tools to make papers. After all, you will be able to mail the handmade postcards or bring back with you as souvenirs.

Miwako is the most friendly and genuine person, and has generational knowledge about the Washi paper tradition that you wouldn’t be able to find anywhere else.
The workshop it self was calming, creative and fun. Learning about the traditions behind the paper to writing the calligraphy was very unique and special and I will definitely go back to do this again when I go back to Japan.
Thank you so much Miwako!!

Miwako & Hiro are extremely knowledgeable and welcoming! We booked this last minute and we are so glad we did, quite possibly the highlight of Kyoto so far! Making the personalized washi paper post cards from scratch was so fun and rewarding. They provided tea and cookies/candies while we watched a short video about traditional paper making processes. Miwako also taught us how to write some things in kanji/hiragana/katakana with a brush pen to further personalized our cards (we wrote "Kyoto" "mother" and our names). The shop itself is pretty easy to find with Google maps and there's bike parking right up the road for 100 yen or so :) We had a fantastic time!!!

This was an absolutely amazing experience. My friend and I have been living in Japan for a couple years now and this was our first time trying something like this. It was very unique and educational but also fun and therapeutic making our own paper postcards. I learned so much and highly recommend this as a fun, casual and relaxing afternoon activity.
